Hey folks. My name is Pete and I have one of the very few Genesis' in Alaska! Its a 3.8 with the tech package, the whole deal, got it for 38,220, and considering there is basically one Hyundai dealer in all of alaska (there is a second up in the far north but they only get the vehicles that this southern anchorage dealer sends to them), I think it is an incredible bargain.
I am moving over from a Caliber SRT-4. I also own a Neon SRT4 which is my 10 second baby, she doesnt see too much road time, especially up here, and the wife as an 08 LTZ Dually 3500 Chevy.
I HAD to trade in the caliber when I started looking into more luxurious cars to drive. MKS was nice, but overpriced, the trunk opening is too small, its just not as fast (was testing AWD model, dont know about fwd only model), I didnt like the interior as much, its not as roomy, and the mpg's cant touch the Genny, ESPECIALLY the AWD which tops out at like 23 or 24mpg.
I had my heart set on a V8, but wasnt willing to wait through the ordering process, plus the all black v6 was on the lot begging me to ttake her home. This is strange for a guy like me, dealerships see me coming and laugh, I usually have to have every single option available, including the most powerful engine, but in this case, I remembered why I was buying this car:
1. I already have a rocketship (my neon srt)
2. I deserve to have a luxurious car as my daily driver. The occasions I drive the wifes 56k dollar truck was making me really jealous (we paid 41,500, but it has everything, nav, rear entertainment, leather, every toy, long bed dually)
3. The power doesnt matter so much, it was the quality of the ride.
Throw in that after driving the MKS, and a Cadillac CTS with ALLEGEDLY 305 hp direct injected 6, the more luxurious Genny was still LOADS faster, ESPECIALLY above the CTS, that is the slowest 300hp car I have ever driven.
The CTS didnt even come close on price even with DISTRIBUTOR pricing they offered optioned out close to the Genny.
So, after alot of soul searching, and wondering about things I have said years back about never buying a foreign car, I have fallen absolutely in love. The more I drive it, the louder I turn up the sound system as I am cruising down the highway with absolutely zero outside noise penetrating the cabin, the more I fall in love. Absolutely awesome car.
Got the Clear Armor with it, gotta recommend that, first time I have had it but its great, service package from Lithia for all future oil changes (I'm ASE certified, I dont want to mess with this car at all, aftermarket parts or maintenence wise), and an extended bumper to bumper warrenty.
Only complaint, the Dunlop 5000's suck on the 7 month a year ice ans snow coated roads of alaska, but then again, I havent seen pavement since mid october. Luckily, I am in the Army, and will transfer out of this frozen hell next year after this years deployment to afghanistan.
Look forward to talking to each of you on the forum, thanks!
