  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Owner!

I got the wings put on this evening. I definitely like the new look, very slick.

Hey guys, I purchased a new '09 Genesis 4.6 w/Tech package (Black/Cashmere) over the weekend. It was that or a used BMW 550i

The 4.6 Genesis with Tech matches the 550i very closely in specs and features (but costs about $26k less). I would be interested to hear your comparison since you've looked at both closely (and made the right decision).

How does the power, ride, handling, features, interior appointments compare between the 550i and the Genesis?

Power: The BMW didn't seem to nanny you near as much
Ride: BMW was stiffer, I prefer the Genesis
Handling: Didn't notice much of a difference
Features: Uh, Genesis by a knockout
Interior: Ditto

Very interesting. Please explain what you mean by "nanny you". Maybe I'm not as agressive a driver as you are, but I've never felt the car hold me back. I'm not aware that ESC has ever kicked in. I always feel like I'm holding back the reins of a thoroughbred that wants to break into a gallop.

The Genesis ride is quite firm, I'm surprised to hear that the BMW is stiffer. I definitely don't want a ride stiffer than the Genesis.

Others will disagree, but I think the Genesis is a better looking car than the BMW. I got the first compliment about its looks from another driver today.

It has to do with rate of change. If you are at a stop and try to turn and give it full throttle, the ESC will kick in. This is a situation where the back end would usually oversteer, and if you are not used to it, really bad things can happen. This car is somewhere in the middle in terms of intervention. Basically it's in line with the theme of the car, which is a luxury cruiser with sporty undertones. If you try and drive it like a mustang, it's going to remind you, hey dude, chill, I'm not a sports car.
The stiffness is largely due to the tire and wheel set up. A lot of Bimmers have the sport package which ups tire and wheel size and includes runflat tires. Great on the autobahn, shitty at Home Depot Parking lot, which is where most of us lay our hats. A lot of BMW owners swap the tires for normal all seasons when the runflats where out. If you go for a more touring oriented tire, the Genesis will soften up, but it will never be a Lincoln or Lexus, that's for sure.
The Genesis is much better looking than the current and soon to be previous BMW 5, both inside and out.

I just wanted to say Hi, and that I like the site. I have my rear Genesis emblem on the way already too!

Welcome good sir! I hope you enjoy your new filly as much as I do!!:welcome:

Lexicon audio system is probably my favorite feature of this car.

Enjoy!

Dan

the Lexicon system kills me, i love it! ive done many many custom systems and the Genesis is the best factory system ive heard! it could always be better under the right conditions and investment amount. However I wont be modifying it anytime soon..... for once im perfectly happy!

Maybe stiff wasn't the best word, but I certainly felt more of the road through the BMW.

TJPark01 explained the "nannying" as I would have.
