  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just joined (Hi everyone).

I'm about to purchase a fully loaded AWD 3.8 Sedan and would like to ask if there's anything specific I should first discuss with the dealer or be aware of that is unique to this car. I've purchased a lot of new cars in my life, so it's not the process I'm asking about, just the car or the brand.

Thanks much in advance :)

I don't understand the question - if you're about to make the purchase, surely the time for questions about the specific merits of the car or general merits of the brand has long passed? And I'm also unsure how this would form the basis of a discussion with the dealer - do you really expect them to tell you anything remotely negative about the car or the brand?

Thanks for the helpful response. Guess this is how new members are treated.

I'd;
-test drive it sufficiently first to ensure no sunroof rattles etc
-no dealer logos on the car
-have them put the genesis badge on the trunk as part of the deal
-ensure latest version of navigation software
-get a commitment for a good loaner when service required

:welcome: aboard and congrats on your up-coming purchase. Don't worry, we are all not miserable people on here :D

Things I would want are the Ultimate package and the Hyundai extended warranty (10 year 100K miles) to cover those expensive electronics that always tend to have issues right after the manufactures warranty expires. :D

Welcome, Allan... Thank you for signing up. As mentioned, it would be good to work a loaner into the deal if you can. Not all Hyundai dealers offer loaners - but Genesis owners generally get taken care of a little better. Do you have any specific concerns about the car or brand?

I've purchased a lot of new cars in my life, so it's not the process I'm asking about, just the car or the brand.

Your experience this time will likely depend on the brands you are used to as well as the specfic dealership being used. Hyundai caters to a mix of buyers in the low to mid end of the market, many in the, "...get a car the cheapest I can that will last and not cost me much to maintain". That buyer is catered to by sales staff differently than an Audi or BMW or even a higher end U.S. brand.

The car itself is essentially a high end Hyundai to the dealer and aside from the normal bargaining anywhere (loaners, oil changes, etc.), many try to get the trunk logo replaced as part of the deal.

The car brand itself is not as strong as, let's say BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc. Hyundai dealers suck so they'll tell you everything you want to hear.

My 2cents: The Genesis is not your "ordinary" Hyundai product. It's expensive, it's luxurious, it's roomy, and has a ton of options. Most people don't know what the heck it is unless they've done their research.

If you want a car that will have people doing double takes, asking what it is, take pictures (depends), and the best bang for your buck, the Genesis is it. I love mine, especially more so now that I've done what I want to it. My wifey loves it, my friends want a ride in it over a 2015 Lexus IS350 F Sport. The list goes on.

The thing with the "wing" badge is that it's a hit or miss. Some dealers know how to install it...others dont. While checking out a new dealership in my area for potential servicing when the time comes, I noticed that every single one of their Genesis sedans have shit wing installation. Either the wing is too high, too low, crooked, or applied incorrectly, causing the adhesive to not bond correctly. I bought a wing emblem from Ebay, with the prongs removed, and debadge/rebadged the car myself. Eliminates the headache of having to do it all over again if the dealership screws it up.

Goodluck :)

Great tips. And let me reiterate that first one, make sure the sunroof is SILENT. If not you'll be like a lot of us and be without the car for at least a week while they diagnose/fix the noise.

Thanks everyone. They do have loaners. I'll look into the trunk badge and sunroof question. Is there a known cause for the noise in case it occurs so I can tell them what to look for?

Allan be aware of the Android Auto/Car Play controversy concerning the Ultimate package. Just in case that’s important to you.

Allan be aware of the Android Auto/Car Play controversy concerning the Ultimate package. Just in case that’s important to you.

I'm not aware of it and I am an Android (S7 Edge) user. Can you please point me toward the data? Thank you.

BTW - picking up the new car tomorrow (coming out of a 2014 Infiniti Q50).

Allan the Ultimate models with the dial controller and 9.2" screen cannot be upgraded to Android Auto or Apple Carplay. The models with the Tech Package and lower (8" touch screen) can be upgraded.

I had a Signature, and I did upgrade mine. If I had been able to swing the Ultimate, I'd be happy to have the upgraded seats, and the HUD, etc. Carplay is nice, but I'd give it up for the better car. (Could not quite swing it at the time)

I would press for the MAP upgrade to version 9.5 or 10. Not so much for the MAP itself.... there is a significant improvement to the Voice Recognition function. Press for this. It makes the NAV and Phone functions much better.

You’re going to have to decide what’s more important to you the Android Auto interface or the added features of the Ultimate package. For me the Ultimate features are more attractive then Android Auto which I already have on my Sonata. The real wood on the Ultimate package is a nice touch but the real advantage is the HUD. They’ve incorporated it so well in to the system you never have to take your eyes off the road. I’m sure you’ll hear the same from most of the Ultimate posters. Just like you’ll hear how much the other camp likes Android Auto. So make sure you’re secure in your choice.

Okay, thanks for the input. Personally, I want the phone to work as a phone and the car to work as a car. Don't care about much else as long as Bluetooth works and I can control the phone through the car. And I agree about HUD - one of the reasons I selected the Genesis over the new Q50.

A couple of other questions if I may (and if I should post these in a new thread please tell me and I'll be happy to do so):

1) Dealer said regular gas is fine, but I'm thinking it should be premium. Your thoughts?

2) It doesn't appear the Genesis reads incoming text messages aloud - is that correct (the Q does and I've kind of gotten used to it)?

3) Is it easy to disable the audio seatbelt warning (I know the pluses and minuses, just want to know if it's something I can do on my own)?

4) And as I asked above, if I do encounter the noisy sunroof is there a known fix? Oddly enough the Q had exactly the same widespread issue and it turned out that all the dealer had to do was lube the rails.

And again guys, thanks VERY much for the warm welcome and helpful responses. I'm sure once I pick up the car I'll have a few more questions :)

1- Regular is fine, you could use Premium if you like, maybe you will get 1-2MPG more.
2- There is where Android Auto and Apple Car Play play a role, Genesis Nav doesn't read Text Messages but both app yes.
3- As far as I know there is no way to disable the seatbelt warning, but could be wrong on this.
4- You can lube the rails but if the noise persist you should go to the dealer for inspection and/or fixing/replacement.

Thanks - hopefully the sunroof sound will not be a problem.

BTW, re: jsmit86's post above - I have the Nav SD card in my possession (they'll install it later when I pick up the car) and the model number is 96554-B1574. I'm guessing that means it's version 9.6 so I guess that's good.

That's the part #. You have to put the card in the car and go to the info screen to verify the versions, and they are cryptic as reported on the NAV screen. You won't see 9.5 or 10.0 for example... there is a different code.

Here is how to handle this:
If you are purchasing an ultimate, insist that you get at least v 9.5, or 10.0 if possible.

If you are buying a Tech or lower, (no jog dial) ask the dealer to perform the Android Auto upgrade prior to delivery. That will give you v 9.5, since it's required for the AA update.

If you need to verify the map version, call MAPnSoft 1.888.757.0010.
Ask them to provide you with the Map version that will show for both 9.5, and 10.0.

Someone on the Forum may also be able to verify them and post the numbers.

This is very subjective but I find my car runs better on premium as reflected by the mileage. I doubt you’ll have a problem with the sunroof as this was a well known problem which hasn’t appeared much on the later model posts. Mine has never exhibited this problem and was an early production model. In case it does come up the more permanent correction was replacement of the rubber seal. Enjoy your ride it’s a great car.
