  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Recall for starter solenoid

Yeah I got mine done and now I'm having all kinds of problems. I'll turn my car off but the engine won't turn off and when I opened the hood and touched the fuse box cover the starter clicked 3 times and when I took the cover off it went crazy clicking. Now it won't turn on and a ton of codes 9 or 10. I'm going to disconnect the battery and see what's going on in the fuse box. It keeps throwing the fca codes the smartra code air flap codes etc. I wish I never got the starter recall fixed
Take it back to the dealer. The tech may have left somthing loose or not fully connected in the relay box

I had my car done a few weeks back no problems that I am aware of. Other issue P2152 code.

I was looking for exactly your post. I have the Genesis 2015 3.8 L and was avoiding the recall for the exact reason you posted. Are you still having
problems?

Mine was just done today after waiting 3.5 months for the part and a service appointment.

I had mine done yesterday. They remove the original starter relay (standard auto relay which is like a <1" cube) and replace it with a giant module that sits on top of (and blocks access to) most of the fuses in the fuse box. They then give you a new cover for the fuse box that will clear the the giant module.

If you ever need to check or change a fuse it's gonna be a big pain in the butt because you will have to undo this module (which is connected in a number of places) in order to regain access to the rest of your fuses. Maybe this solves the recall issue but IMHO it's done in a horrible way. The whole point of having a fuse box is so that you can easily see and test the fuses at a glance and now your fuse box is buried under another device. At a minimum they should have designed this with some sort of quick connect so that you could quickly unsnap the module and get to your fuses but no, it's gonna be a big pain to access the fuses (and other relays) from now on.

If this is the same recall I am booked in for next year, they have ordered a new starter motor in line with the letter from Hyundai, this is Australia on a 2014 DH

Parked mine outside for 6 straight years. Rain, snow, sun, you name it. I don't think it ever spent a day in the garage (space).... unless it was in for service.

I also drove it through numerous snow storms and at least 2 significant blizzards (6 hour trip for one of them), and the rain many, many times..

The 15-16 IS branded as a Hyundai - so, I would think Hyundai would do it with out crossing the imaginary line now drawn between G and H - not to mention it is going to be the same solenoid on a large number of Hyundais.
I have a 2015 Genesis 3.8L. Flooded roads are easy to avoid in my location Southern Cslifornia. Have read about some having serious problems after doing recall. I am inclined not to do it. Did you have it done on your vehicle?

I had it done, no issues. The only negative is some of the fuses are blocked by the new relay under the hood. If you want to remove those fuses, you have to remove the relay first which would require disconnecting the battery.

I had mine done and no issues. But God forbid that you ever need to test or change a fuse in the future. Not only would you have to disconnect the battery (and then reconnect in order to do testing) but the new relay box is not at all trivial to remove. So testing a fuse goes from being a simple (and if you are paying for labor) cheap process to a major undertaking. They fixed one problem but created another. Not a well thought out solution IMHO.

Are you still having problems? I don't think I will have it done to my 2015 Genesis 3.8. Thanks for your post.
I am more concerned about the risk of fire than issues with the recall.

Did you have it done on your vehicle?

No I did not. After 6 years and north of 130k miles and spending all its time outdoors - I didn't have a lick of trouble with this issue, and sold it in 2021.

I've had no problems since having the recall done thus far.

I had the recall done recently and so far no problems. The relay is massive and in the way of many fuses, so I agree it's not a very elegant solution.

Can you share a picture of it please?

My son has the car, so I cannot take pictures at the moment. This is not a big concern, just a minor one. I doubt it will ever be an issue. If it is, I am guessing the fuse can be accessed and put back together in under 30 minutes.

That's probably about right. You do have to disconnect the battery first, as you have have to remove some bolts that are at battery potential all the time, to be able to remove the add-on relay.
