New Tires

Could I get some suggestion on New Tires. I am currently looking at the following tires on my 2009 Geny Sedan Tech, Black on Black full load.

Michelin 235 40ZR 18" PS2 N4 for the front.
Michelin 265 40ZR 18" PS2 N4 for the back.

Tires are new off a Porche Carera, and well priced at 650.00 for all four.

Do you think the ride will suffer with the lower profile and do you think the stock rims are wide enough. I am having issue with my Dunlops and I want to dump them. I think I am having belt seperation as they are creating a rumble at 90KPH (55mph).

Your thoughts are important info to me.

I would be concerned about the large difference in diameter. This might confuse the ABS or traction control. If the rears were 265-35 it might work. The fronts are smaller diameter than stock as well.

I wonder if you would be considering these tires at new retail price? Personally, I do not like to change tire sizes from OEM. I have tried oversize tires on other cars and have had numerous hazzles with speedometer corrections, tire clearances and alignment.

I think the better course is to stick with original tire size that you know will fit the rims as they were designed.

As for price and value, no doubt Michelins are great tires, but some Asian tires are very competitive. I am currently running Nexen 7000 Korean tires bought on eBay for $539 delivered. I have used them on my Cadillac CTS-V and BMW Z4 with good experiences.
A friend swears by Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum (Grand Touring All-Season), which TireRack sells for $556 plus shipping. I read TireRack's reviews on this tire, and was impressed by favorable comments from owners of Lexus 400 series, a car with comparable specifications.

It's against the rules to change the tire diameter without changing the wheel size also. i.e., you're considering tires with a 40 series profile, you would need to upgradge the wheel to a 20 inch at least to compensate for the smaller tire profile, otherwise they will look ridiculous.

Thank you all for the very convinceing positions. I have now re-thought the idea and I am sticking with OEM sized tires. I will check out the Kumho tires.

If you want opinions on tires then both http://www.tirerack.com/ and http://www.discounttire.com have good customer review sections. They will also show you which tires sizes you can use to get the same overall diameter for a given wheel size.
