  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
I have a 2013 Genesis Sedan 3.8L. I keep finding Cold Air intakes for 2014 3.8Ls but not for 2013. What are the major differences between the two years? Also does anyone know where I might find a big brake kit for the car? There does not seem to be many aftermarket mods for the sedan. Any help is very appreciated!!!

Virtually identical cars, at least under the hood.

air intake is the same and for the brakes...you can get the genesis coupe brembo setup

As you can imagine, the ‘14 production numbers were a bit light since they were gearing up for the introduction of the ‘15 model that is, in fact, the same G80 model that’s on the sales floors these days (with some technology improvements to keep up with the times).

Cold air intake is wast of money on the Genesis.

what would make it a waste on a genesis but not on any other car? More air is good and it provides a great induction sound to the engine. I am also looking into doing more engine work. I want a custom looking and performing sedan.

Here is the best info on why its a waste of money.

You make the assumption that I wouldn't be getting a tune after all of the parts were put in. If you don't like people modding their car that's fine for you, but I am going to be doing it properly. The videos that guy makes are more annoying then you presumption that I wouldn't be doing it properly.

He is kind of annoying but he makes a lot of sense. On the car he has there the first thing I noticed is was not bringing in cold air. Tune or not, check to see how it is really going to work on your car. Unless you do a comparison on a dyno, you will never know for sure anything other than it looks cool. I never assume anything from the advertising on the box, I work with proven facts.

Does not matter to me. Your car, your money, your choice. Have fun.

As the owner of a ‘12 3.8, which is pretty similar to your ‘14, I recommend leaving your engine alone. What’s not to like about 333 hp? Spend your money on good maintenance and enjoy the ride.

I'm not looking for recommendations of staying stock. 333 is good but it's not 450 or 500. My 13 is very well maintained and I am looking for the next big step on having a good looking, fast, fun 4 door. If you don't understand the desire to modify then that's totally fine but not really what this thread is about. I am looking for options to modify and gain. Stock is boring. Spice things up.

It’s not that folks don’t understand the desire to modify, etc. Some folks have simply outgrown that. Many don’t even need to wash their cars once a week anymore either.

Skip the big brake kit, unless you are only wanting for cosmetic reasons.

I am looking for constructive ideas for my car, not your opinion if I should modify it. Thanks!

I'd give it a definite "maybe". Two things potentially affect the engine on the intake. Air temperature and air flow. The test shown has little to do with real air temperature. Close the hood, drive the car to get the radiator temperature to normal, then test with the hood closed. Putting a cold air intake in back of the radiator does not seem to be the best idea. Testing under actual use conditions will prove it either way.

The Abel racing intake does not go as far back as the others and is with out a heat shield ,so it is still utilizing the front air duct right next to the radiator, I get your theory with heat soak when at idle but when the car is moving all that hot air is pushed out obviously that's why they have the huge fans at the dyno.

Trade it for a Mustang? Or keep the Genny as a DD and go buy a real performance car as a weekend Mistress (what I did).

But seriously, maybe the subtle responses from my esteemed forum colleagues haven't sunk in.

The sad reality is that the Genesis BH just isn't an aftermarket performance car. Unfortunately there just really isn't much available in the aftermarket for performance mods. Internal engine mods have never been available. Years ago Garcia Factory in Korea made suspension parts. KDM Motors Inc on FB was one way to get GF parts back in 2012 but they appear to be long gone. You can still get springs made at custom shops if you have a big wallet. Magnaflow makes catback exhausts for 09-12 4.6 cars, and there are gobs of wheels and brake kits.

If you want 400-500 HP then NOS is really the only solution available ... if you so desire. Sounds like you found a tuner. I don't think the engine internals in the non-turbo cars are forged ... and I'll tell you right now that the transmissions most certainly CANNOT handle that kind of power. But I guess you can find out the hard way if you wish.

The GENESIS STORE menu at the top is pretty much the entire performance aftermarket for our cars in one convenient spot. Yeah sure you can ebay stuff too, but buying from Sal helps support this excellent forum.

:welcome: to the forum and please keep us informed of what you end up doing.

I will go as far as saying the Rspec is impressive for a big booty sedan and will beat 90% of the vehicles on the road, like I said at the track I was right in the thick of things with the muscle cars /n/a german v8s. Agree You can make anything fast or faster with boost just depends how much you want to spend. Also agree the transmission is the Achilles heel on these cars.

They weren't subtle responses, they were opinions of people who no longer have desire or lust for driving their car in a spirited way. It sounds like you have all just accepted fate and no longer want to push your foot down. I am in the process of building something that no one else has, a fun, fast, sexy looking big booty sedan. KDMholic has a few options for aero and springs, BC racing has coilovers, tunes and things work. I may have an old man car (judging by all of the responses on this thread) but it doesn't mean you have to just settle. If you don't agree to the tuning culture then please do not post any more replies on this thread. You wouldn't post on a coupe thread saying its wasted money, so don't do it here either. THANKS
