  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 2013 Genesis 3.8L with 65K miles. It is a lot of miles on a 4 year old car but it seems to have been maintained well.
The maintenance schedule says that there is "No check, No service required." What exactly does that mean?
What other types of maintenance should I do at this mileage?
I really like the build and workmanship with this car! And would like to keep it running well...
Thanks.

Congrats on the new purchase. 65K is only 16K per year so I'm not sure I'd call it a high miler.
What kind of maintenance history do you have on the vehicle?
Did you buy it from a private party or a dealer? If dealer, was it a Hyundai dealer? If so is it a CPO car?
Regarding maintenance, if you have the owners manual, section 7 is a pretty detailed section of what, where and when.
Here is a mini version of the schedule:

Thank you for the reply. (For some reason I am unable to open the Attached Thumbnails on this forum).

I have never had a car that needed no transmission fluid change and am concerned if I'm reading the schedule correctly???

No one seems to want to give a direct answer about Transmission Maintenance on this car....

So yes I confirm that there is nothing stated about inspecting or replacing the ATF in here:

https://www.hyundaiusa.com/maintenance-schedule/index.aspx

But at the bottom of page 4 on this 2009 TSB, it clearly says that there is no set specified replacement interval, only inspect:

http://pages.suddenlink.net/daydrea... V6 AND GENESIS V8 AUTO TRANS FLUID LEVEL.pdf

It's "Inspect every 37.5k miles or 30 months, replace if needed." That's your schedule.

Challenge completed. Welcome to the forum. :welcome:

Transmission should be serviced every 75,000 or so. No fluid is lifetime unless lifetime means 100,000 miles. Purchased my 2011 in Sept. 2010 and I now have about 207,000 miles on my Genesis and have had the transmission serviced every 60,000 miles to 80,000 miles. Also do not use aftermarket oil filters.

Thank you very much for the info.
I will change the fluid soon (maybe at 65 or 70K) and would like to use synthetic.
Is there a special trans fluid that I have to use?

I just bought 2 Hyundai oil filters at the dealership... :)

Thanks again.

Yes, but you must use transmission fluid with the exact specifications as shown in the owner's manual. It is a synthetic, but not all synthetics for transmissions are the interchangeable (unlike motor oil).

The specified transmission fluid is very expensive, but it must be used. Changing the transmission fluid is not a DIY type job on the Genesis, and there is no single drain plug at the bottom.

If you don't have an owners manual, go to www.myhyundai.com and register your car, and you can download it in PDF form.

I'm really not sure why you are wanting to change the ATF so soon, personally I'd be changing at 100K. Although I don't completely agree, here's what the service manual says:
ATF of 8 speed automatic transaxle doesn’t need to be replaced in normal usage. If the vehicle is used severely in business or personal
use, replace ATF every 100,000 miles.
Severe usage is defined as
• Driving in rough road (Bumpy, Gravel, Snowy, Unpaved road, etc)
• Driving in mountain road, ascent/descent
• Repetition of short distance driving
• More than 50% operation in heavy city traffic during hot weather above 30°C(89.6°F) .
• Police, Taxi, Commercial type operation or trailer towing, etc

The service manual states this transmission uses ATF SP-IV-RR fluid and for simplicity I would stick with the recommendation and get it from the dealer. It is about $11 a quart and will require about 8 quarts to do a drain and refill.
There is a drain plug on the bottom as well as an overflow plug, the fill plug is on the side. The process is simple, remove drain plug and overflow plug, drain, reinstall drain plug and fill until it runs out the overflow then reinstall both fill and overflow plugs.

Yes the transmission fluid is very specific and may not be available at your local parts store and do not trust a shop that does not have training on the Genesis transmission. It is sealed and service should be done by the dealer. Also, what Mark888 said.

Since you purchased the car used and do not know if the use was normal or not then I suggest having the transmission serviced as well as all other fluids and oils.

Thanks for all the responses.
I will probably hold off till 100K. Not sure how much the dealership will charge here to change out the ATF.
I will do my own oil changes though. I like working on my own car... :)

I am back after having last year traded in my 2012 Genesis 5.0 with the oil consumption problem that has been well documented here with many of the earlier 2012 model Genesis with the 5.0 V8 engine. Many of you advised prospective Genesis owners to go with the 2013 or 2014 models if getting a first generation Genesis, so I have done just that, purchased a 2013 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. I'll be driving it home as soon as CarMax transfers it here...

Congrats on the new purchase. Theoretically there should be no real difference between the 2 so it would be nice if you were to post up your impressions/comparisons between them.

The main difference I expect will be not having the oil consumption issue with the engine and bugs in what was then a new 8 speed transmission in 2012. I think the suspension might be a bit more stiff given it is the R-spec version but overall it rides quite smoothly. The driving experience is great, the car is fast and quite comfortable and nice features as expected.

I did several test drives of vehicles over the last few weeks. The latest generation of the Nissan Maxima is pretty nice but the Genesis still have it beat in all areas.

I think the only way to get something that beats a 1G Genesis is perhaps a 2G Genesis or the Genesis G80, or get something that will cost substantially more more money.

At prices in the low 20,000 range, the 2013 and 2014 R-Spec are a great deal overall.

Great choice, Dean, and Welcome!

Okay, yesterday I had the trans fluid changed and the coolant changed at the Daytona Beach Hyundai dealership. They did a good job as far as I can tell. It was only $430.34 for both procedures. It took the 8 quarts of ATF SP-IV-RR #00232 19052 @ $17.00 a quart.
I am going to have the plugs changed next week. They had to order the plugs because they did not have them in stock. They quoted me $335 for the plug change...
I now have peace of mind that the maintenance has been done... :)
