  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys I just picked up a 2010 4.6 on Tuesday. I love it thus far. Few questions. (I am sure I could spend Hours searching the forum for answers but I imagine this is a faster route.)

1.) How do I update the maps in the GPS?
2.) Is there anything that I should change, or that is common to change out?
3.) I have a Dome/map light thats finicky. It works but its not as bright at the others and appears to be LED (Very white and very bright)? Are these factory or aftermarket? How hard are they to replace?

Also in general if there is anything I need to know about it? Odd and or cool stuff it can or should be able to do. I have not got to spend much time with her as I have been working all week.

Thanks for the help!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
1- The GPS updates are done only by a Hyundai dealer. The are grossly expensive at around $400..... I did shop around and found a dealer 100 miles from me who quoted $100 because he already had the update I needed and was only going to charge for labor which does NOT needed constant attention as my local dealer told me.

2-I haven't changed anything on mine.... just tinted windows and full badging.

3- Cannot help here.... my dome light flickers after being on a few seconds and they replaced it to no avail.

Additionally, I hope you don't have near the problems I had with mine. I won't even go into all the issues, but, in a well know magazine that rates cars every April issue, our 2010 got the "worst of the worst" in used cars. Sorry.

My dealer had me order the software update here:

http://www.mapnsoft.com/hyundai/map-updates/2010-hyundai-genesis-map-update.html?___SID=U

They charged $100.00 for the the installation. Make sure to have a full tank of gas. They left mine idling while the install DVDs were loaded. Putting the car on a charger would probably make sense.

Owners requesting map updates are rare. My dealer had never done one before.

The bright white LED "Room Lights" are stock.

My best upgrade was to swap the horrible Dunlop tires for Pirelli's. The Dunlops are the worst driving and riding tires I've ever had.

Uh oh. I didnt read anywhere that they were such horrible cars. Can I ask what kind of issues you have had or what I should try to expect?

I have had no issues in 183,000 miles. A few people have had problems but the 4.6 is a solid reliable car. The dome light comes as a complete unit I think. The GPS update goes well if the dealer keeps the car running or on battery charger for the 2 to 3 hours needed for the update.

Another case of the 2010 4.6 sedan getting a bad rap. Mine has 72K flawless miles on it, with just the scheduled maintenance performed, a set of Michelins, new battery, and tinted windows. Smooth, comfortable, and quick. I haven't done the map updates, the one in the system is close enough and, if I need to find a place not in the car's system, Google Maps on my phone finishes the job. I'm using full synthetic oil during changes, if that matters. Still on the original brake pads and getting 18-21MPG in town, 27-29MPG highway. Cars can be like people. I have two uncles, both are from the same gene pool. One is a great guy, the other is a pain in the $%@. Hope your 2010 turns out to be as enjoyable and reliable as mine.

I'm at 78k with little to complain about.

86k on a 4.6l and nothing to complain about here either. Would deff buy another one.

Have a Fog light out. Looked at it from the outside and they are both full of condensation. Is this normal or do I have a problem?

My 09 I bought a few weeks ago has been good so far. Sunroof is being replaced for a faulty motor and track, CD changer doesn't eject, load or play(could simply be jammed), but otherwise everything on it is great. Runs/drives great, all options(aside from the 2 mentioned) work great and I love the ride quality and comfort. I really can't complain at all for what you get for the money, and I've seen/heard of no major widespread reliability issues with the powertrain either.

No condensation in mine. It's possible that someone didn't seat the bulbs or caps properly when replacing bulbs.

There are a lot of threads about replacing the fog light bulbs on the 2009-20111 Genesis. If one goes with an aftermarket one (not OEM) be very careful about the heat it generates, because the housing will easily melt with many after-market replacements.
