  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I want to replace the "H" center caps on the new R Spec with the winged badges center caps.

Are these a "plug and play" replacement part or is there some actual work involved to remove the stock center caps?

Are the new 19" center caps available from Hyundai or only as aftermarket?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Kevin

I believe you're correct. If you look at this post, metalav8b had inserts installed by his dealer. The picture he posted shows the inserts that look exactly like the 17" inserts and he confirmed via a PM I sent him.

I ordered a set off of eBay for my DIY rebadge project ($40 for the caps and trunk emblem, shipping included, sure beats $300 the dealer quoted me). And, as hot as it has been in KC (111 degrees the day I bought the car last week), I could probably just walk up to it and every-so-softly blow the flying H off the trunk lid.

Still not sure I'm going to make the switch - but I thought I'd order either way so that I have the option.

I just did the lazy H to wing center cap swap to my 18" wheels last night - so simple. Bake all the center inserts on a cookie sheet in an oven at ~230 degrees for 20 minutes. First, I gently pry the lazy H off the 18 in's large plastic insert with a small flat head screw driver (the adhesive remain on the large plastic insert). The wing metal cap would almost pop out of the 17" small insert by itself; gently pry the wing metal cap off the plastic insert (I scrapped off the adhesive that remained on the cap). Then just place the wing cap on the large plastic insert - done. Remember while working on one piece to keep all other items in the warm oven. The adhesive sticks better if it is warm.

On the 17" and 19" it is a simple 5 minute process for all 4 wheels. I snapped mine out with a small screwdrived with the blade wrapped in tape. We did my neighbors by buying a dental pick at HArbor Freight and hooking it and pulling them out. If you don't want the old ones simply run a dry wall screww into the H caps and pull them out with pliers.

Ok I am confused if I get a 2012 genesis sedan r-spec with 19" wheels does the center cap just pry off and then pop on the center wings made for the 17" wheels? Whats with the over deal?

I just checked the caps on my r-spec and it looks like all the pictures of the 17 and 18 inch wheels would work. Theres not much there. Maybe 2 inches for the cap. I did not pry one off since I dont have the winged caps to replace them yet.

They're shipped from South Korea, but the seller ships same day and appears to make it as quick and painless as possible (although I'm still waiting to get them but I only bought them 10 days ago).

Added bonus, he's actually lowered the price from when I bought. Looks like you can get it for about $35.

i got mine from KDM for the same $40 price and they arrived in 3 days with their free shipping. They stock them and ship them from the Philadelphia area.
