  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Newbie!

Well I’m back asking essentially the same question. Looking for another 1st generation Genesis! I bought 2011 v6 w/tech pig. back in 2018 and had no to little mechanical problems. Bought it with 190k miles and drive it until 257k miles before getting hit and totaling it in a snow storm 2 months ago! (Though I did have some electrical issues with back camera and cruise control not working).

After more history with the 2013-14 what is the suggested model of 1st gen to purchase? Is it still:

1. 2012 4.6
2. 2011 4.6
3. 2011, 2012 3.8

Did they fix the 5.0 issues? Is the 6 speed trans still preferred over the 8 speed?

Thanks for the help.

I bought a 2012 4.6 new in February 2012 so just passed my 10 year mark so I think as the original owner I can speak on my experience. I currently have 75,000 miles and other than buying one new set of Michelin Radials everything is still original including brakes. I just returned today from getting my new brake fluid reservoir cap replaced under warranty. Early in my ownership I had a couple of screen issues with my back up camera but it stopped after a couple of months. I have had no issues with the 8 speed transmission. Curt

At USD$4+ for fuel, I'd go with a v6. I've driven a 2014 v6 and they are quite lively. But even a 2014 is an 8 year old car and will have 8 year old car issues out of warranty. Normally I would never recommend buying a used import out of warranty, but we live in strange times, so if you insist on buying a car that old, my advice would be keep to the base model and budget accordingly for repairs/maintenance.
