  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm a 70's era "muscle car" guy that slowly lost interest in cars years ago. Instead of cars - I played with large displacement motorcycles to satisfy my "performance" needs. I've been watching the v8 Genesis for awhile waiting to see how well it was accepted and to see what changes would be introduced with the 2010 models. Last Friday night the dealer near my office called to let me know that the '10 Genesis had arrived. Saturday - I went to take a look and as many of you might guess - I now own a 2010 Platinum Metallic v8 with the Tech package and have been grinning ear-to-ear ever since. The only real modification I'm considering at the moment is replacing the 235 / 50 18" tires with something wider like 255 /45 18 - or going with the 245s in front while moving to something like 275s (with nice looking 18" aftermarket wheels front and rear) in the back - if they'll fit properly. I'll close my first post with the comment; "The v8 Genesis is the first car that I've been excited about owning in a very long time."

Welcome aboard, Mr. Luketic! And thank you for signing up! I'm glad to hear you can finally be excited about a car again! The Genesis certainly is an impressive vehicle! I own a BMW 750Li and if the Genesis was available when I made my purchase, I have a strong feeling I may have taken the Genesis. My ONLY concern was service.....

That being said, the Genesis turns my head every time I see one.. It's a great car and I can easily understand why you're excited about it.. The Hyundai Equus will probably replace my 7-Series when it becomes available in America...

It's very interesting that you mention that you currently own a 750Li as I'd been looking at this year's 750 and was getting serious about getting it. Until I spotted the v8 Genesis - I was in the process of justifying the hundred grand plus price tag required to get all the really cool options like fender cameras and forward looking infrared (or night) vision. While the Genesis doesn’t have all the features of the loaded 750 it had enough of the things that really counted to make it a no brainer (when considering cost) for me. I’ll take a really good look at the Eqqus as it get approaches reality and possibly upgrade my wife from her Lincoln to the Genesis when I get the Eqqus or vice versa. Thanks for your efforts to create and maintain this forum.

Congrats on your purchase of a wonderful car and enjoy!:D

Very nice - let us know what wheels you go with - the Genesis should look great with some deep dish wheels!

Congrats on the new car, nice color (that's the color I have). Would love to see some pics of 275's, if that's the way you decide to go. I think you'll be impressed by the power of the car. It will pull very nicely into the triple digits

Congrats!

Do some more homework on tire sizes. A 255/45 18 would be quite a bit shorter than the stock tire.. A 275/45 would be about the same OD as stock. Do some homework on tirerack.com. They have all kinds of information you can get to that shows OD's of different sizes. Go to a tire and click on "specifications".

Congrats and welcome to the forums! You sound excited. :welcome:

Be very careful what you wish for. You may get it. Before you go to a different size, go to TireRack.com and check the total diameter of the tires you are thinking of getting. You may be surprized as how big some of those other tires are, and they may not fit correctly. Example: A Mercury Marauder that I had took 235/50/18 in the front and 245/55/18 in the rear. When you placed these two tires next to each other, you could see just how much larger the diameter was for the larger tire. Also think of how your speedometer will be off. When I checked TireRack, to compare the diameters of various tires, compared to the stock 235/50/18, I found that the only ones that are even close to the total diameter to the stock size was the
245/45/18 and the 235/55/18. (this last one will probably put your speedometer spot on). I don't need tires yet, but when I do, I will go with one of these three sizes, probably the stock size.

Two more things to remember.
1. Your wet road traction will not be good with the wider tires. (Not to even mention snow on the road).
2. These cars have ESC and if you use different sizes, front and rear, the cars computer will read it as not working correctly, and your ABS and/or ESC lamp will probably come on. The electronics is set for the same size tires, front and back.

Cheers.
