Next Gen 3.5TT engine for the G70

So both port and direct injection? I've never heard of an engine with both - would this be a first? It seems like it would add a lot of cost and complexity, having twice as many injectors, which might need to operate at different pressures, more wiring, etc...


The Toyota D4S (port and direct injection) system has been around for a long time, I'm sure there are many others.
 
Toyota uses both direct and port injection for their NA V8 and V6 I believe. I'm not sure about any engine that uses both along with turbos/superchargers though.

Me neither, but the FT86/BRZ uses the same port/DI injection system, and many have either supercharged it or turbo'd it. The newer WRX that uses the FA20 is factory turbo'd, and it still uses the D4S as far as I know.

Edit: looks like Ford uses it on some of their engines, including Ecoboost engines.

The D4S system also shows up in the A25A-FKS (2.5L in the Camry and RAV4) and the M20A-FKS (2.0L in the Corolla).

The V35A-FTS also has the D4S system, and that is a twin turbo V6 used in the Lexus LS.
 
Since we are talking engines, check this MB 4 cylinder engine. Sort of off topic to the 3.5 Genesis but technology wise pretty cool. HP numbers are impressive. The link may have to be manually copied for I’m just semi technology challenged with making links work when copied.

Dang, that is pretty cool. I found a YouTube video also showing their assembly process......it seems like it's officially from the future. Nice!

 
Sweet find Todd. Digital inspection stations, robotic probes, everything in work cells, factory of the future for sure. An engine built like we all would do ourselves if we had the time and specialized tools. Would love to know what that engine factory daily output is?

I believe the 5.0 in the S550 Mustang has both as well.
 
do you guys really think they would move up to a larger, heavier engine to hit 400 hp? The G70 is already heavy, and a couple adjustments to the current engine intake, exhaust, etc can hit that 400 number easily without needing that extra displacement (depending if they just stroked it or if its a larger block we would have packaging constraints as well)
There is a company that put better exhaust and bigger intercooler and it was putting out 450hp and 430ft pound torque with the 3.3. If they manned up they could put out a 3.5tt that is a true m4 competitor with 470hp and slay with it. I would prefer and improved 450hp 5.0L myself great engine just in need of upgrading better tranny and direct injection WITH variable timing. More power little better mpg very smooth.

Looks like it's stroked, so in theory it should be fine from a packaging perspective.

Yea the comments after mine and the information that’s come out in the 10 months since I made that comment have changed my mind on that fact. I made that comment even before they announced the 3.5tt as an official thing
