nighttime dimming side mirrors

I have noticed that sometimes while driving at night the side mirrors dim and it definitely helps with driving. However this only happens rarely. More often than not it doesn't engage and I get the full brightness of the other car's headlights shooting into my eyes.

Anyone know what turns the feature on, and why its sporadic?

I haven't paid attention to engagement but mine appears to be working when expected. I'm guessing its enabled at a certain ambient light level like the headlights.

Well if it is automatic the sensors are acting up. There has been many times where the lights were blindingly bright so I folded the mirrors in and just drove without changing lanes.

You can turn it off by pressing (and holding for 5 seconds) the power button on the rear view mirror.
If the rear view mirror is working correctly, the side mirrors should work the same way.

Do you have options? I know the base model only has heated side mirrors and an auto dimming rear view. Side mirrors don't dim.

I have noticed the auto dimming rear view in my car doesn't like to respond to LED headlights until the car is relatively close behind mine. It'll adapt to regular headlights much more timely and reliably.
