  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everybody,
I experienced a strange problem with my 09 tech package. I was driving my car with AC on and it was ice cold inside the car. I always set the AC on Auto. As usual when it's cold inside the fan will be set to the lowest setting to maintain the temperature. After about an hour of driving I started to feel hot. I lowered the temp and fan started to spin faster but it was still hot inside. I lowered the temp to the lowest setting and fan started to spin at the fastest speed.
I noticed no air is coming from the front vents. It was like as all the vents are closed! I changed the setting to the footwell but no air was coming from the footwell. I changed every setting but no lock. It seemed that everything is clogged. I checked the cabin filter which was new and was replaced last month. I checked the fan which spins normally. I have no idea what is clogging the air.
Please let me know any solution for this problem.
Thanks,

Try and checking the fuse. There is a fan motor that relies on electricity to run it, obviously. I don't know much about the first gens but that may be the culprit.

Humid day? Try it tomorrow morning. It is possible the coil froze up blocking air flow. That can happen with low refrigerant for one. Keep the fan on auto so you have proper air flow over the coil.

If it is related to poor air flow freezing the coils, replace the cabin air filter inside the glove box. There are YouTube videos that explain how to do it.

Usually when only one vent is not working, it is an actuator that has gone bad, but sound like that may not be the problem here.

Start practicing saying the words new AC compressor.

Thank you for answers. It is actually working completely well today. You are correct. It was a humid day. But my filter is new and I have checked the refrigerant pressure 2 weeks ago myself. I think I should take it to a mechanic shop and have them check the refrigerant.
Do you have any other suggestion to save me some money not going to a mechanic?
Thanks,

But my filter is new ...
I assume you are talking about the cabin air filter inside the glove box. Is there any chance it was installed upside-down? Was it an OEM filter or an after-market filter? Some after-market filters are too restrictive in terms of airflow, even though they trap more contanaments.

Yes, I am talking about the cabin filter. The direction is correct but is is not OEM. I bought it of Amazon. Here is the link for it:

Is the airflow OK today? Dead squirrel in the ducts? I'm guessing you checked the obvious like the intake and double check the cabin filter. If moisture got to it it could have clogged too. Make sure the fan is always operating too. It is possible you hit the right wet bulb temperature just one time too, but that is very unusual. You have now reached the limits of my expertise.

Airflow is good when I start the car. It means nothing like a dead squirrel is involved and ducts are clear. It happens when I drive the car more than an hour. At this point I believe it is caused by a frozen coil. As airflow is good when I start the car it could be low refrigerant or moisture in the system. How can I make sure which one is correct?

How about a dead cat then? I don't know if it would directly affect freezing, but there is a drain for condensation to drip out. Perhaps someone can chime in here with the actual location aside from under the car. Most are rubber and open from the water and drip, but they can clog over time. If the bottom of the coil starts out in water it would only get worse.

Specs say it is a "Four-layer fabric (One Carbon Layer)." I would not use such a filter, since it can restrict airflow compared to the OEM. This happens sometimes on home HVAC systems where people buy expensive filters thinking it is better to trap more particles, but it can interfere with proper airflow.

IIRC, there should be a temp switch on the coil that shuts off the compressor when cooling is not needed. If that has failed, then the compressor might be stuck 100% on and will ice up the coil.
