  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No CD player...

A couple of weeks ago I drove my first genesis G70 sport. Love the car. I too was kind of surprised it didn’t have a CD player. My last car a Infiniti M45 add a CD player and could also play DVDA audio 5.1 surround Discs. Amazing sound. I still like cds but I guess I’m going to have to get with the times as they are becoming extinct.

I use Tidal Premium for lossless music. Paired with Android Auto it works well. However the Tidal app in Android Auto kinda sucks not being able to easily explore new music and block songs via the car screen.

Our two current cars don’t have CD players and going forward I don’t expect one in a future car either. Actually can’t remember the last time I played an audio CD as I’ve fully converted over to streaming. Use Apple Music including their match service in which I’ve previously ripped in my CD collection over the years. Honestly it’s just easier and I don’t have to worry about managing another device, worrying about what songs I do or don’t have on a flash drive and enjoy discovering new music too much to constantly try and keep another external device up to date.

I still use the CD player in my Genesis 5.0 but only for DVD Audio discs for 5.1 music. I hope my next car still has a DVD drive. What's the point in having 17 speakers in the car if the source material is only 2 channels?

I still use a USB stick for stuff I can't get on DVD and I BT stream my podcasts.

I had 5.1 in my Infiniti and it ws great. I didn't realize other manufacturers had 5'1 also. Too bad it's gone.

How hard is it to fast-forward into a long single track file on an external device? I frequently listen to DJ mixes that can be 3+ hours long and sometimes want to jump to the middle of a set quickly.

On the USB you can "touch" the elapsed time bar and it'll go there.

Excellent. I was very worried about having to press and a fast forward button for so long that I end up giving up or worse - skipping to the next track/set. Good news.

just buy a used iPod nano or touch or something and keep it in the car... you can probably get a used one on ebay for around $50ish... that's what my parents did with their Cadillac and they just keep it plugged in all the time.

Or better yet you should just be able to use a USB drive. Load up a bunch of MP3s on a USB drive and plug it in and forget about it. Then you should be able to select the USB drive as the audio source and play our music that way.

Honestly, the cheap iPod is the best option because it's plug and forget
I use a USB drive. I have 2500+ songs on a drive hardly big enough to stick in. My 2013 Camaro also did not have a CD drive. However, th inability of the G70 to verbally address the USB drive is a distraction issue. In my Camaro I could verbally call up an individual song or performer or folder. Can't believe my $50,000 dollar G70 can't do that.

Just test-drove a G70 and love it, but the work-arounds for a CD player seem like a pain. I like to listen to books on CD from the library and the idea of ripping one-listen CDs onto a thumb drive that doesn't work well with Android Auto is unappealing.

Portable Bluetooth CD player. Start at about $45. CD is becoming extinct in a lot of cars.

Thanks for the tip - I have not looked at CD player technology in over a decade...

My dude: download Libby on your phone.

How is the sound quality and how did you hook it up in the car, Bluetooth or USB or aux? Would be great if it also played Dvda audio discs too
I used a regular audio cable that plugs into the Aux port next to the wireless charging pad. I am using batteries in the CD player right now, but I can also plug it into the power port next to the Aux port.
From what I understand, it can connect to bluetooth headphones only. I tried to have the car search for bluetooth connections, but it did not find the CD player. I will try again.
It sounds good to me, but I have only tried one CD! It happened to be Queen's greatest hits CD, and I thought it was crystal clear, good highs and lows, and took full advantage of the car's speaker system. I have about 400 CDs, so I have a few more to try. I mainly want to play CDs that I do not hear on the radio/XM anymore. Next, I might try some old-school Metallic and see how it does.

Even if it did play DVDA, you wouldn't get the 5.1 channels. Only stereo. If that's the case, I'd rather just rip all my CDs in a high bitrate format onto a USB stick or keep it on my phone.

Owned the car for over a month, never noticed until the other day when I tried to play a CD, only to find out that the TIP (sport, at least) doesn't come with a CD player!?

Husband surprised me with a 2019 Genesis G90. Said it had a CD player...as he knows I like to listen to books on tape while I travel. He didn't think to ask where it was when he purchased it. Found the CD player in the glove box. Not easily accessible at all...especially since I travel long distances alone. So downloaded the books on tape to my iPad Pro. But can only run that through the Bluetooth...so I have to disconnect my phone. Really Genesis....get this worked out....ridiculous!!!!

Why don’t you download it to your phone?
Also I just use audible.com Very convenient.

Here’s my find and portable CD players. Price is lower than $45. Just bought a G70 yesterday. I still have a working Radio Shack portable CD player. Going to try it today.
