  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum. I just purchased a black 2010 with the 4.6 a couple of days ago. I absolutely love the car but am suprised to find the there is no "real-time" vehicle speed indicator as one of the items you can scroll through (unless of course I just haven't figured out how to display it if there is one). Does anyone find this an odd omission if so?

There is no such display. Does the little dial thing in the center of the instrument cluster with the speed printed on it not cut it for you?

This is not an odd omission IMHO

Ok, I thought I was missing something. The analog dial does the job of course, but my last two vehicles were Cadillacs and had a digital speed display in addition. Its a very minor issue.
Thanks,

Sam

Welcome, Sam.

I had a digital speedometer in my '84 Thunderbird. It drove me nutzo.

If your car has active cruise you can see the number on the speed setting screen. Digital speedometers seem like a gimmick to me.

Had digital speedo on 2013 Passat SEL - it was useful...

I'm lost, you wanted a speedometer next to the speedometer?

Thank you Captain Obvious. I was pointing out the logic of his disappointment.

I like the digital speedo as an option. I have it on my radar detector and when I am using active cruise. It is a great little supplement to the analog speedo. It is common in many luxury cars with some kind of OBC. It is perfectly reasonable to ask if it is in the Genesis too.

#1 - I'm surprised the NAV (Premium Package) doesn't show a digital speed. The cheapest add-on GPS from Garmin or whoever has that capability. But then, this NAV doesn't show the posted Hwy speed either. Time for a good firmware and mapping update!!

#2 - My Corvette has HUD, I like the digital speed reading, no need to see the analogue, well the needle is just below the 100 or whatever, you look, the HUD says 98!

I agree with the OP, an optional digital speed would be nice .... RonJ

While I do not see a digital speedo as a "must have", I do find that it comes in useful at times. I use an Android app called Car Home Ultra on my Note II. It has provisions for displaying a digital speedo right on the home screen of the app.

+1
Yes it would be a very nice & useful feature to have, IMO.
Not sure the Equus has one or not?
Luckily my Beltronics Pro500 has one.

I suggest learning how to differentiate what constitutes and insult and what doesn't.

MY2013 NAV does.

+1 a royal pain...... that's why MOST manufacturers quit putting them in cars..... and that's a good thing. :)

I had digital gauges in my old Z. Thankfully though modern data refresh rates have improved compared to 30 years ago and it's not as laggy.

Still, when it comes to aftermarket gauges I always tell people to get analog ones and not digital because they are easier to read and better for noticing chances.

So this is an opportunity to help us all learn. I assume you meant this to be insulting. If not, what then?

My goodness,

I didn't realize this little item would bring out such a response. It was just a question of whether a simple digital speedometer was present on a digital screen that shows multiple bits of information - question answered. Yes the analog is fine & I get the shots about a speedometer next to a speedometer, but I had gotten to enjoy the digital readout & the analog speed dial mph increments can get a little crowded . Clearly its a personal preference.

MY2013 NAV does.

Hmmmmm. Maybe I'm missing something. My 2013 3.8 Genesis with the Premium package, has the 6.5" touch screen NAV. If memory serves me right, the car was built January/13 so I'm guessing the software is current. I have yet to see the Hwy speed on screen. Is there a setting I'm missing or have wrong?

RonJ .....
