  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone,

I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 RWD, 60k. Everything was good until today the car refuses to identify any of my fobs (2). A month ago one of the fobs needed a battery change, I did that and the low battery warning disappeared.

I got in the car using a mechanical key today. No light, no signal, buttons don’t work. At first, there was a message on the dashboard that the key was not identified. I tried a few times to turn on a push button while pushing breaks. Nothing. Then again a few times, now pushing a push button with a fob. Some signs appeared on a dashboard in yellow. The clock rewinded to the 12 pm position. The signs on a push button were switching between ON and OFF. I tried a few times - nothing. In a few minutes, I tried again to turn on the car. Now the car is totally off; no signs, warnings, etc. I’m puzzled! The car is parked in a garage and worked great even in recent super cold weather.

Any advice would be helpful, thank you!

Can't imagine why the clock would reset if you had a bad FOB. First thought is low voltage in the car. How old is the battery in the car? (Three years out of each of my two previous batts) If it's relatively new, check the terminals by loosening/wiggling/tightening them.

Yes, your car battery and the cables connected to it should be the first thing you check for this problem.

Makes a lot of sense! How can I check if there are issues with voltage, battery? Or the only way is pretty much to change one to see if it helps?

Never changed the battery in this car nor charged the battery. From my experience, if the battery is low, the car shows a red sign on the dashboard.

Can it just die abruptly? I drove the car yesterday in the evening.

If it’s not the battery, what can it be?

Battery is your #1 suspect. Charging system is #2. FOB battery is a red herring.

Thank you! I'll buy a car charger now and see if there’s any change

Original battery? Consider yourself very lucky. Good chance charging it won't do much. Before you buy a charger, get a multimeter and check the voltage. If it's under 12 volts... buy a new battery.
