  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2016 3.8 Genny AWD (fully loaded with all options) provides heat from the chest up just fine, but my feet freeze in the winter cold. The dealer seems to be struggling to find a solution. Has anyone else had this problem???

There are a lot of things that could be causing this. You'd need a dealer level scan tool. It could be a blend door, sensor malfunction, heater core, etc.

I've found this to be a problem since January 2018 when I purchased my 2016 Genny used from a Hyundai Dealer.
I complained & dealer says these is nothing wrong so I have lived with it. Must be poor design.
I live in Calgary where we see -30 c sometimes.
Floor heat being inadequate is one of the few beefs I have with this car.

Thank you, rroyce. -30C! Wow! I feel for you, dear friend!
My dealer service dept spent over an hour on it, charged $78 (US), claimed there was all sorts of heat pouring forth - which there was but it was all from the dashboard vents. I complained but haven't had time to take it back to them.
When I was (much) younger (I'm 89) I would crawl under the dash and figure it out. I physically can't do that anymore. My son and grandson have said they would take a look but same, no time yet.
Glennk has given us some targets but no chance to carry through yet.
Still hoping.....

Is it any coincidence that pictures the manual, and the display in my car, show gray-shaded arrows emanating from under the dash in that view of the various, let's say 'arrows of air delivery' by the heating/cooling system, where the rest of the arrows are bright white? (Sorry if the sentence isn't the best. I don't have time to make it shorter.) Maybe the darned thing is *supposed* to deliver only a puff of warmth there - which, my dear Canadian friend, is an outrage. And my friends who were in the Korean war tell me it gets cold there too!

Might be a dumb question, but. Did you try manually setting it to floor?? if it does not change, more then likely the blend door is either stuck or the motor for the door is bad. This was happening to my wifes Pilot. Bad blend door motor.

Hi Smitty!
Thanks for the suggestion, but yes I've even cycled the buttons many times. No joy. As I said earlier, I have not yet laid down on my back and crawled under the dash because I'm not young and flexible, but I'm getting closer to doing just that.
Since rroyce in Calgary, Canada said they have the same problem, It's not easy to be optimistic about this. My son has an identical car so that's another route I will take to look farther into this.

I think it's the car in general. I've noticed it doesn't blow much out of the footwells on mine too, at least not as much as I think it should. I typically keep mine set to floor+defrost because of this.

Thank you snork! It's helpful to know that it's not just my car. The illustrations in the manual or on the LCD screen, when I push the "Climate" button, show shaded (not white) arrows which seem to indicate that a strong flow was never intended to come from under the dash. I can't figure that out because I know damned well that it gets cold in Korea.

Ok, so normally I don't need heat. But we had some cold mornings here in Fl. I noticed, there is barely any air blowing out at the floor. It was enough to warm my feet up, but not enough it there was snow..
Might be the nature of the beast.

Thanks for the report Smitty! You're right, it's not enough flow here in the NE where we went to 5 degrees (F) last night. I love the car (and the heated steering wheel!) but this is a real disappointment. I wonder if newer models have better heat flow 'down there'. Are any newer model folks watching this?

I have the same problem. I have a 2015 3.8 Genesis. Here's the best solution I've done so far. You have to use the heat on manua, not automatic. Close all of the vents on the front of the dash. Set the level to floor and vent at the same time. The closed vents will force the air to the feet level. Use the fan up/down button to control the amount of air you want.
This is caused by a controls problem in the logic program that doesn't close the dampers at the vent and front window levels and force the air to the floor. Internal logic control that's not there for some reason. Hope that helps.

Rrmyers, I have to say wow! We don't drive very far these days because of Covid, so the car hardly gets warmed up enough to get some real heat. I had not tried closing the dash vents to force the air down. I will try it on my next run. Thank you!

Did you ever get it scanned or repaired? Mine has heat everywhere other than drivers side footwell.

Hi MrsLavigne, It's been to a dealer once at a cost of $78 to me and no change in the problem. Advice from the (excellent) people on this forum, and my own research, indicate that the design of the Genesis heater/AC system did not intend to put very much heat on the feet. I have followed (correct) advice to close all the chest-level vent apertures to force more heat to the foot vents, but the system is still pathetic for outside temperatures below 40 degrees. (I live in coastal Connecticut where winters are not terrible severe but they're bad enough.) I have accepted this situation as fact and as a very disappointing feature of the car. I *do* wonder if later models have been improved in this area.

Such a weird design choice - it's not like it never gets cold in South Korea.

I have the similar problem with my Genesis g80 3.8 L. Problems over problems, one after the other . Anyhow floor heat stopped. Going to the dealer is like talking to a wall for some reasons .

I am going to check the air filters if they are clogged . I know it sounds stupid.

It's not throwing any codes .

It's probably one of the air door actuators.
You may get more accurate help if you correctly identify your car. There were no Genesis G80 in 2015. Either you have the wrong year, or your car is a Hyundai Genesis Sedan.

It's right model Hyundai Genesis g80 3.8 2015

The only way I’ve found to warm my feet in, first my 2014 Genesis and now my 2019 G80, is to direct the air to the floor and crank the thermostat up to about 80.
