  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Posting just in case this might help someone else with a similar issue.

2009 Genesis 4.6 power steering intermittent then eventually nothing at all. I've seen quite a few complaints from others about no power steering.

The 80 AMP and 10 AMP EHPS fuses under the hood were good. Scan tool was unable to connect to the EHPS module.

There are 2 connectors for the pump. The 3 pin connector with smaller wires carries 12v for the EHPS moduler, CAN high, and CAN low. The EHPS module gets steering angle sensor and vehicle speed sensor data from the CAN bus through this connector. The larger 2 position connector caries high current (80 amps) 12v and ground to run the pump motor.

The terminals in the larger connector were making poor contact with the steering pump despite the connector being fully seated and showing no signs of corrosion or damage. Disconnected the power connector from the pump, used needle nose to squeeze the terminals on the wiring harness so they'd make better contact. Cleaned with contact cleaner for good measure. Reattached and that corrected the no power steering issue and EHPS module is now responding to scan tool.

Best way to deal with this is to remove the front bumper. That will give easy access to the pump and wiring harness under the passenger headlight. With the engine running, apply sideways pressure to the power connector while it's connected to the pump. If the pump runs intermittently as you push the connector around it's most likely loose terminals in the harness.

If you want to replace the connector it's a 2 position female AMP connector. Repair manual lists it as AMP_312WP_02F_B. I'll see if I can get AMP part numbers off it tomorrow. A bit of searching online turned up a vendor that sells a pigtail for around $75.00.

Just for good measure I also cleaned and lubed the ground wire on the ring terminal attached to the pump and the terminal on the frame. The frame grounds for this circuit are located on the passenger side frame rail next to the exhaust manifold above the alternator. If you remove the air cleaner you'll see two wires running over the edge of the frame rail. One of the wires will be a fairly large gauge. The are crimped together into a ring terminal and bolted to the frame rail.

Well I did some more checking and it's actually a Tyco connector. I didn't find a molded part number on the connector. After doing some searching a THINK it's a Tyco NG series 1544317-1. That's the closest thing I could find in any catalog. There Tyco drawing has mold markings that match the format and location on my connector. No promises that it's the correct one.

Pic below. Note I removed the orange seal from around the mating surface of the connector looking for part numbers. You can see the terminals to "pinch" in one of the pics. The odd shiny look to the connector in that pic is dielectric grease, not melting or damage.

Well I did some more checking and it's actually a Tyco connector. ....
FYI. Tyco bought out Amp a while back, and Tyco is now known as TE Connectivity.
