No more oil pan drain plug - Very happy

Hi Folks -

I would like to share a great experience with a product for my Gene:

I no longer have a drain plug on my oil pan. This weekend I installed a Fumoto drain valve. Whenever I go to drain my oil I simply turn the spring loaded lever and the valve opens. No more stripped bolts. No more remembering to replace the bolt washer. My oil changes are that much faster.

On a side note, as I replaced my oil I noticed that I am over the 'Full' mark after only 7 quarts of oil. I will of course use the Fumoto to fix this. But it makes me wonder if I am not getting all oil out of the engine when I am draining it. I drained both with the front end lifted and on the ground.

Seems to me that the real hassle here is removing the panel for access to the oil filter. I think it should be possible to engineer a simple flap access "door". It is on my project list.

Absolutely. I changed the oil (and filter) at about 150 miles, now again at 1500 and I will now commence following the standard schedule.

And as Rey states, removing the panel over the filter is the most tie consuming. For me the Fumoto does not save a great deal of time but does prevent stripped threads and bolts. Call it cost and risk avoidance. And I don't have to jack the car as much to fit a wrench underneath the car.

The reason I ask is i'm trying to get a sense about the overfill you mentioned. The 4.6 and 5.0 are similar engines. What I have found in the 4.6, is that after all the oil is drained. If you jack the driver side of the car with the rest of the car flat on the ground, another 1/2 qt or so drains out.

Ah... sorry about that - I was reading a bit too fast. I will give that a try next time I change the oil. Thanks for the info - it sort of defeats the purpose of changing the oil to leave some of the old crud to re-circulate!

you're never gonna get all the oil out. For the 5.0:
Capacity
Total : 8.0L (8.45 US qt)
Oil pan : 6.3L (6.66 US qt)
Drain and refill including oil filter :
6.8L (7.18 US qt)
