  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My car is a 2012 Gen Tech and I just discovered that the nav address book has no field for holding the name of a destination, other than Home and 4 Favorite Points.

How can it be useful for looking up a destination when you can only locate it if you already know and remember the address? Can't imagine why Lexicon would design a system like that.

Any thoughts?

The system does store 'Previous Destinations' so if you input it once manually you can recall it from that menu.

Yes, thanks, and I understand that.

But how does seeing a list of street names and numbers you have previously entered help you figure out which one you now wish to navigate to, without a name to identify it?

Stop the presses!

I found the answer to my own question about there being no name in the nav address book. It's a non-problem. Here's an edited excerpt from pages 258 – 262 in the Driver Information System User’s Manual:

Genesis Navigation Procedures

Editing Address Book entries
When saving a destination in the Nav Address List, the system automatically uses the address as the destination name. You can edit the name and assign a different one as follows: (Note: The name of the entry in the categories Home and Work cannot be edited.)

Editing the name

  • Select the Name data field in the editing menu.
  • The speller appears and you can now edit the name to change it to a more meaningful one.
  • Proceed as described in the chapter “PHONE”, section “Entering a name" on page 197
  • To complete editing: Select the menu item OK.
  • If a Address Book entry with this name already exists, you will see an appropriate message.
  • To close the message: Press the Controller.
