  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I searched and saw some similar threads but nothing with a clear solution.

My 2009 3.8 has long had an issue with a flickering rear dome light that I never bothered to address because it was a minor annoyance. It also would randomly "forget" the steering wheel position and neglect to lower the steering wheel when starting the car.

Recently the weather got a bit colder and I've started having more problems. Last week while driving, I got the driver seat belt reminder icon in the instrument panel. I fiddled with the buckle but it didn't seem to have an impact. The reminder would come and go randomly. Similarly, I would randomly get the key icon (but not the key not detected warning) on the instrument panel. Key battery is fine.

A couple of days later, I opened the door to get into the car and nothing happened. Interior was nearly completely dead. If I recall correctly, the start/stop button was backlit (which was odd), but no other interior lights came on. Brake lights worked. The car wouldn't start - nothing happened when I hit the start button. No fuel pump whirr, nothing. I opened and closed the door a few times, and the interior lights came on, then the car started without issue.

This type of thing has now happened a few times in the past week. Generally it happens when it is colder, but I don't have hard data on that just yet. It also seems to resolve once I open/close enough doors to get the interior lights to come on. I've banged around on all 4 fuse box locations, have poked at the power distribution block in the truck, nothing seems to have an effect (e.g. when the interior lights are on, I can't even get them to flicker).

Any thoughts on where to go from here before my dealer spends a decade trying to do diagnostics? I'm reasonably handy and have access to the Hyundai service manuals so I could try and do some electrical troubleshooting - really seems like whatever is controlling interior power is causing my problem.

MY first stop would be the ground connections at the battery

Thanks. I've whacked away at those in the trunk already and didn't notice any change (I did it when the interior lights were working, and saw no flickering).

Do you know where the other chassis ground locations are?
