  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have about 30K miles on my 3.8. And have had 6 or 7 occurrences during the past two years where the engine won't turn over when pressing the start button. The message on the dash screen reads "Key Not Detected" anyone aware of this problem???

What is the model year? Did you change the Key Fob batteries?

2014...No I have not changed the battery

Change the battery in both key fobs (2032 battery), and try not to leave your keys too close to the car when it is parked (don't leave them on a table just outside the door to leads to your garage, if you can avoid that).

Mentioned it in another thread. Yes, it happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Changed batteries in both fobs about a week earlier so I was surprised to see it. Went back to the house and got the other fob, same thing. I held the button and it started and it has not repeated.

This is after 21 months and 35,000 miles. Maybe it happens only around the time of a solar eclipse.

Had this happen a couple of times with my Lexus. Added new batteries, still no go. Lexus manual said to hold electronic key up against the start button and it would work. Did this and it worked. This only happened at my house. Discovered later that there were some communications antennae close by. This may well have been the problem, depending on how they were transmitting at the time. Never recurred with the Lexus. May be some interference in your area that happens sometimes.

This happened to me once or 2x. I changed the batteries in both with some cheap Harbor Freight batteries which I dont recommend since they dont last. Get some hi $$ ones as they need to last. If all fails just put the FOB in the slot until you get where you need to go.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but I think push start is overratted. I think the CHIPPED key is more secure than a push start which is pointless. You forget or lose our key fobs you have to fork out a car payment or mortgage payment. With a chipped key you can always get dealer to cut you one on the fly or use your valet key. BAD idea to me.

I have to disagree on this one. Security aside (which I know nothing about) the problem with the chipped key is that you have to go fishing through your pockets and pull it out every time you want to start the car. With the fob you don't have to figure out if it's in your pants pocket, jacket pockets or wherever, you just get in and go. Big plus for me.

I have had to get a new chipped key two times in the past several months. One for a 2005 Dodge and another for my Can Am Spyder. The Dodge was almost $200 and took 4 visits to the locksmith to get it right. The Can Am key was $140 and a week long wait for the blank.

If someone wants my vehicle that bad just take it. There are plenty of replacements.

And I HATE carrying around that big fob in my pocket. I now have three cars that use fobs and I have had to segregate them because my pockets are too small. Doesn't seem to stop thefts all that much either.

I am big on security (cars) the FOBs were not really that popular until recently. It seems it could be easier to take a frequency out of the air to clone versus making a chip to match up to your ECU. What did we all do when we had no FOB and chip keys in our cars? Keys and knowing you wont accidentally leave that FOB somewhere by accident (My wife). An after market rolling code alarm system and a chipped key is so awesomely secure in my opinion.
Funny my Dad's 2016 Tundra XSP Offroad fully load does not have push start at all. GOOD JOB. Chipped key for the win! :)

Just my opinion.
