Non-Staggered setup for a 2023 G70 3.3T Rear Drive

Would there by any issues if I run all weather tires, squared setup with size 225/40R19? I'm guessing I'll need to be careful how fast I drive around corners because of less grip?

Thanks!
Cornering grip isn't as much of a concern as power handing if yours is the 3.3T. Even then, unless you drive like a scalded ape. 225 will allow your G70 to handle just fine for most scenarios you'll encounter on public roads.

Hey Volfy, I have the 3.3T. I don't take the car to the track or do any racing. Just acceleration in regular city driving and highway. How does a scalded ape drive? is that a good thing or bad thing lol. I'm glad to hear that it won't be sucky to drive with that setup.

Hello fellas, looking for a little advice. My research tells me this will work, but it'll be close. I'm thinking of the Braelin BR12 19x9 +35 with 255/35R19 tires omn a square setup. Anyone running this setup size? any issues with strut clearance? Braelin

Why so wide... Width only causes problems... If you're buying new, there are better options all explained above

Going to be real close to that front strut, I run 255s on my 18x8.5 +35, in the front and it's close but I'm on my 19" winter set right now so can't confirm actual clearance. Maybe @Volfy can confirm as he's had issues w/ coilover clearance when going real tight in the front.

Yeah, there's a point where you get diminished returns, I prefer a wider tire setup just for the extra planted feel, but turn in decreases w/ wider front tires which is one of the cons for sure. So glad I have those Whiteline sway bars as the extra stability in the corners negates some of that lack of turn in w/ the wider fronts. Love wider rear tires though, to a point, I think the G70 w/ 285s is the sweet spot in the back as long as they're not poking outside the fender like a skateboard :)

Anything over 8.5" wide you need to be very careful. It isn't just clearing the strut either. A lot of wheel mfrs make a distinction between front wheel and rear wheel applications, and vast majority of them consider 9" and wider more for rear wheels. As such, the face of the wheel (the spokes that tie the center hub to the barrel) is curved differently than for front wheel application. This means the back of the wheel face might have trouble clearing the larger brake calipers typically used on front wheels.

I am not familiar with Braelin. Maybe somebody else is and can advise. I would start by contacting the mfr or distributor and ask them about that particular wheel for front wheel fitment. At the end of the day, unless you can do a physical test fit on your own car, or find somebody that has, it'll be a crapshoot.

Hello Volfy and Co.

I posted yesterday but it got somehow deleted

We have a 2024 G70 3.3 RWD with the 19" staggered setup. What would be a good squared setup with 18". we( my wife) want max comfort.

I keep reading about 255/40R18 18x 8.5 but am not sure about the offset. I also want to avoid tire spin with tires being too small.

2 days ago we hit a large pothole and bent one of the front wheels that cannot be repaired. I figured its a good time to upgrade given the stock oem wheel is at least $700

Thank you all!

Offset +35 and you'll be gold, this will maintain factory scrub radius and you could always add a spacer in back if you want a bit wider track in back.
Here's my 18x8.5 +35 on a 255/40/18 in front (have staggered so I run a 9.5 +45 on 285/35/18 rear). I run Superspeed Rf03rr wheels, weigh only 18lbs for the 8.5 width.

Hi Blnewto,

Thank you so much for the detailed info, very much appreciated. How is the comfort vs the 19” setup?

Also will 18x8 work instead of 8.5?
Notice a bit of difference in ride comfort w/ the taller sidewall for sure, and our roads are pretty poor so it's nice to have extra pothole dampening too lol. 18x8 would work assuming you find a wheel that will clear the big Brembo calipers (assume you have the big brakes). with a 8" I would only go to a 245/40 tire size though.

good to know. I actually found some we liked and ended up ordering these yesterday. Thanks for all your help!

Good looking wheels. Can't go wrong with flow-formed Enkei's. PA51 is a great choice for everyday ride comfort. That was what we bought for our G70, right after we brought it home and promptly got rid of the OEM staggered 19 pothole magnets. 255/40R18 is a good balance between powering handling (for your 3.3T), street handing/performance and comfort. The only thing you'll give up is a bit more front tire noise, from the wider tread. I doubt you'll notice it much, especially when the tires are relatively new with full depth tread.

Post up some pics when you get them mounted.

Hi Volfy,

Thank you, yes Los Angeles has probably some of the worst streets out there.

Should get all on Thursday and will report back!

Btw, I don't remember if you were the one that expressed concerns about flow formed wheels having basically cast centers. While that is definitely true, realistically I don't remember ever seeing anyone posting wheels with damaged centers, unless it's a horric crash. Usually, it is always the lip and barrel that get dented/cracked.

Of course, if money was no object, we would all prefer true forged wheels through and through, but the price jump is hard to justify for most folks primarily street driving. Besides, most aftermarket wheels mfrs design forged wheels to minimize weight, not so much to maximize toughness. That's really for when that incremental performance gain makes sense.

Nice choice, you're going to be quite happy I think! Are you going to transfer your TPMS over, if not, these aftermarket TPMS sensors have been great, no problem w/ them linking up and are better quality vs. OEM

Ok all done but required some modifications.

First impression… much lighter steering, less noise and more smooth. Looks great overall.

I only had an issue with the gap between the stabilizer linkage mount and the tire. It was too close for comfort, so I modded it a bit.

Let’s please not start a safety discussion. There is plenty of meat for the stabilizer🙃

That clearance is about identical to my setup, haven't had any issues with that, but if it gives you some piece of mind giving a bit more clearance seems to be fine too!

To me, it doesn't look like that trimming was necessary. I've run mine with gap a good bit tighter than that. At higher speeds, the tire will naturally balloon upward (grow taller), due to centrifugal force, so the sidewall will actually move sightly away from the strut. If anything, I would've let that run for a while and keep an eye on that strut. If the tire does rub on the strut, over time you'll see black rubber shavings stuck to it. Yes, I've had that happen on my own car after tire/wheel/suspension mods. In my case, it was the thick protruding rim protector band on the tire that was rubbing, which wasn't doing the tire any structural harm.

But... it's your car so your call.
