  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Having had the Equus for months now, I find myself driving in the sport mode almost exclusively. While I like the softer ride of normal (it is a bit softer), the responsiveness in normal mode just seems sluggish, especially from a stop. I am also finding that gas mileage in sport mode is better for me by about 2 mpg - likely my driving habits. I don't know if the car has an adaptive transmission or if the shift points are set, but the car is definitely more responsive. If only I could have the sport mode and a bit more of the normal ride smoothness.

Having read a lot of reviews on the Equus, appears some reviewers preferred the sport mode and some felt the car was more designed for deliberate gradual driving.

What mode are you all driving in regularly and why?

Genesis 5.0 R Spec - and I wish I could use the so called "Sport" mode:mad:

The 8 speed trans shifts up and down - hunting and pecking -

it won't hold the revs in any gear on it's own - unless the car is near redline of course -

Hyundai has a long way to go in the transmission dept.

you can't rush the gearbox either -

you can't even hit the accelerator pedal to kick down a gear - like the ZF tiptronic trans does-

this transmission is best left in regular drive

Only had mine for a week but noticed that I use the sport mode in town and on country roads and the confort mode on the highway.

No problem with the 8speeds what so ever.

I'm lovin it:cool:

It really depends on my mood. Most of the time I'm fine with 'normal' mode, but some times I'm feeling more aggressive and go to 'sport'.
And just the opposite of you, I find a lose about 2MPG by using sport.

I switch between the two.

When I'm driving on some of the curvy mountain roads around here, I use the sport mode. Regular driving I use auto.

Sometimes on the interstate, particularly if it's windy, I use the sport mode 'cause I like the steering a little firmer.

Your right about the steering, it does feel better in the sport mode.
It is kind of light in normal mode. But then again, you can get used to anything this comfortable.
Still loving every drive I take with the horse.

I use both quite frequently. If I am really in a hurry I kick it into sport mode. If I'm driving in the city, I go normal. I even ask my passengers what kind of ride they like and I adjust accordingly.

I absolutely love the ZF transmission. It is one of my favorite things about the car. 6 gears is plenty....

I've only had my Equus for two weeks. At first, really missed the more nimble steering feel of my departed 2010 3.8. But as Mr. Snake says, you do get used to things. So in a short period of time I have come to love everything about the Equus, including the heavier steering. While many reviewers found little difference between Sport and Normal, I surely do and I prefer Sport for the tighter steering and enhanced performance.

only have 1000 on my rspec, but have lately have been using "sport mode" a lot. i seldom even drop to 1st gear in sport i go to 2nd gear and acceleration is VERY rapid and goes to 60 mph in a blink of an eye, has anyone tried sport mode in their genesis r-spec? what do you think?

You're asking the question in an Equus forum, so you're not likely to get many replies.

Have had my Equus for about one week. I definitely prefer sport mode. The steering feels tighter to me and the car's body seems stiffer. (But not that overly stiff German feel). Even driving in the city, I keep it in sport mode. I wonder if the initial reviewers of the Equus would have given better reviews regarding ride and handling if they kept the car in sport mode?
