  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone. This is my first post here. I want to thank you all for everything you do the Hyundai Genesis community. I want to say first that I work for Hyundai and Sell the Genesis line and know them all inside and out BUT I am currently looking to purchase one for myself and my family. I also in saying so have 2 kids so need something spacious.
My questions I need advice on is this... I am looking at a couple 2015-2016 Genesis G80s with higher mileage because of my price range I need to be at. I would like to buy a CPO and put a full Platinum Wrap Warranty on it but the monthly payment surpasses my financial situation so I need to find one with higher mileage and will attach a Limited Powertrain warranty to it.. My question is that I am looking at the those 2 years 2015-2106 because they were still Hyundai and not fully owned Genesis and easier to attach warranty BUT I also like the Equus which of course is the predecessor of the G90 but am worried about the Air Suspension problems and the RWD being I live in a Snowy state. Do you think its smarter to avoid a lower mileage Equus and stick to finding a G80 because of the better reliability?? I am worried about that Air Suspension failing and costing thousands being its only covered through the Full Coverage warranty. Any input would be appreciated. I do think in my opinion the G80 is a better choice going with at 60k miles because it will last into the 200k if maintained correctly but wanted to see what everyone thought. Thanks everyone!

Great choices but why buy a tank with big engines if you want to save $$?
These cars are not exactly fuel zippers.
You may as well get the new Sonata and save money on gas.

Agreed. Plenty of cars in that price range that would probably fit your budget better and have similar enough features

The Equus has more fancy amenities that can break down. I'd go with the Genesis. I'd also take a look at the Sonata. May be a better value for your needs.

I have a Sonata as a loaner while my G80 is in for service. I was very surprised to see how nearly identical it is size wise to the G80, a fully loaded one has all the same options, at this point it comes down to 3 things:

  1. FWD vs. RWD
  2. Fuel Economy (25+ for Sonata, 18+ for G80)
  3. quality of the interior materials.
The G80 has far superior materials inside, the seats, leather, dash, etc. materials are far nicer in presentation and feel, the layout is also better IMO.

but bang for the buck the Sonata is no slouch. it is as big and roomy inside as the G80 and would be fine for a family of 4 IMO.

Me personally I will never drive a wrong wheel drive (aka. FWD) vehicle. Can't stand how they handle. just my preference. So I would always get the RWD car.

I want to thank all 4 of you guys for taking the time to share your thoughts. I think your all right. I want a monthly payment thats comfortable BUT I cant forget the maintenance costs for those Gennies. I may start looking at Sonata Sport Limited that have exact options of the Genesis just lacks the power... but with 2 kids who needs to be driving crazy.. wish I could, but unfortunately cant lol... I still LOVE the look of the Genesis but to get one with 75k when I can grab a Sonata for same price most likely CPO its probably the smarter idea... you guys all rock. I appreciate it everyone

don't know your situation or location, but around me in SoCal, a new 2019 Sonata Sport is going for $21-$25K
New Hyundai Sonata for Sale - CarGurus

a 2015-2016 Genesis with 50K-70K is coming in between $17K and $21K
Used Hyundai Genesis For Sale - CarGurus

as I said, bang for the buck the Sonata wins. 2018+ has all the driver safety stuff (lane keep, smart cruise, blind spot, etc). and is would be new with a new car warranty.

If one has to choose in that price range, as much as I hate FWD cars, I would take new over used if that was me.

Yup absolutely. We have a few nice Sonata Limiteds here with 75% of the options the Genesis has but lacks the performance etc.. but until I can easily afford one it is probably a smarter idea to go the other route.. shoot for the stars I guess and hopefully will get to it one day. Thanks everyone!

Yep, Genesis is a nice car, but your family comes first. Many of us here had some really low cost cars and beaters to get by with. Buying smart now makes it easier to get the good stuff down the road.

And many of us still do have those old cars, that 15 year old truck runs just fine, keeps the insurance premiums and miles down on the other two ;)
Good luck...
