  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I'm going home from work yesterday and....

Allow me to illustrate

Code:

                                \##\ \________
                                 \##\-----
                                  \#######
                                   +------
                                          [/COLOR]

Exhibit A is the stop sign my car (the black <-[]) was at. Exhibit B is the stop sign the bus (the string of green []s) was coming to. I stopped at A and continued west down the road towards B(which isn't a stop for me). As I got to about 10 feet before the stop sign, at 35-40 mph (did I mention I love this V8?) the bus just turned left. He didn't even stop at the stop sign, he just rolled through and kept going as if I didn't exist. I had to nail the gas (stopping woulda got me t-boned) and dodge to the right, towards the curb. I just BARELY avoided this idiot, but I hit a bit of a dip in the road, and the car jumped and when I landed I had a bit of sideways momentum and JUUUUUST barely scraped the curb. Enough to leave 3-4 noticeable scratches on the front right fender, at the very bottom. I've attached a few pics.

Anyone have any idea as to how much it'd cost to get this fixed? I may just leave it seeing as how I live in NYC and the roads here suck anyway. Comments?

you are very lucky that's all that happened. it could have been a lot worse

Can't tell much about how deep the scratches are but if not too deep, a little touch up paint purchased at your dealer may be a cheap an probably unnoticeable repair. If the bumper does not need to be replaced, shouldn't be too expensive depending on the veracity of the body shop.

Holy.. Did you beat the $hit out of that f@#ker?
I would've gotten out of the car and stopped the bus to settle this matter. But I guess this kind of incidents are somewhat common in NYC?
I would seriously consider those video recording black boxes if I were you. A simple video clip showing what happened would have been enough evidence to ask the city for compensation.

BTW, glad nothing worse happened.

Dan

I actually know someone on the bus who commented to me about the bus not stopping. I should be able to get the city to do something, I hope:) Luckily, like Water Boy said, this is all that happened. I'll probably get some touch up paint and call it a day. It's really not bad and it's a really unnoticeable spot. Sigh though. As my buddy put it "I hate driving in your area - it's like destruction derby, with less rules"

It's been a couple of years since I last drove in the city, but the nearest analog I can think of is bumper cars. I can't imagine driving in NYC (or LA, or Chicago, or Cleveland, or...) on a daily basis. I'm glad I'm in "the country" (comparatively speaking)

From what I understand, Boston is even worse.

As some of you may remember, I sometimes go to Europe, mostly for vacation, (France & Italy), but sometimes, on family business (Italy).

Many Americans complain about how they drive in France, however I find that the French drivers are great drivers. Even in Paris, where I try not to drive, they are good. In the rest of the country, they may drive fast, but sane. I love driving the French Countryside.

Italy,,,,,, is another story. I normally spend time in Catania Sicily. If you get in a traffic jam, don't be surprised when someone passes you ON THE SIDEWALK. Nobody stops at stopsigns, just slow down a little. On the open road, does not matter if it is a two lane or the Auto-Strada, they have an unwritten rule (law). Nobody is allowed to be in front of you!!!!!!!
On two lane roads, (picture this), you are driving North, another car is driving South, car behind you is also driving North, solid line down the middle of the road. What do they do?? Car following you passes anyway, with the solid line going going right down the center of his car. It is expected that the South bound car will move to his right, and you, the North bound car will move to your right. They do this even on curves! Crazy! Funny though, after you are there for a while, you find yourself driving like they do. (When in Rome ----)

Thats why I no longer drive in the city, between the buses and the cabs its like Escape From New York.

good luck capo, i was surprised the bus didnt stop, but like most people in nyc no one wants to take responsibility
