We have 3 cars: '07 Hyundai Santa Fe, '13 Lexus RX350, '13 Genesis Sedan 3.8.
In all 3 cars, I installed a Thinkware x1000 camera system and used a Thinkware Echomaster OBDII power adapter.
In general, an OBDII port will send 12v power while the car is running. When the car is turned off, the port continues to send 12v for ~2.5 minutes, and then goes into standby mode. The purpose of using the Echomaster plug is to take advantage of that standard behavior. Car on, Camera on. Car off, Camera runs for ~2.5 minutes, and then is sent a signal (standby mode) by the harness to go into low power mode. This works perfectly is most cars, including the Santa Fe and RX350. The behavior in the Genesis is odd.
If I turn the car on, the camera turns on. If I turn the car off, the OBD II port never goes into standby. But.. If I do the same test with the camera not connected, I get a different behavior. Turn the car on, the harness gets power (a little red light on the harness turns solid). Turn the car off, after ~2.5 minutes, it goes into standby (the red light blinks).
It appears that if there's a draw of power from the OBD II port, the port never goes into standby. If there's no draw, it does goes into standby after ~2.5 minutes.
Has anyone experience anything like this in a 1st gen Genesis?
