If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Oh Crap! BMW dealer sold me a used Genesis and I feel like a sucker!

UPDATE: Returned the car to Chapman BMW in Chandler AZ on Saturday.

This isn't directly related to Hyundai but years ago I owned a fairly rare 1987 Isuzu Impulse. It was a great car - except for the fuel system. After the engine died passing an 18-wheeler on I-10 and also dying in the middle of a major intersection in Tempe and not being able to find the problem myself I took it to Chapman Isuzu in Tempe. Three visits and a very expensive high pressure fuel pump later the problem returned. I had to refer the issue up through the command to get Chapman to look at it again. An old mechanic in their shop finally determined that there was a very small screen inside the fuel pump which was not shown on the parts diagram which was being clogged by another part disintegrating. Once these were replaced/cleaned the problem disappeared. I installed a separate fuel filter just in case.

The lesson I learned from this was not to buy a vehicle from a dealer whose main products are something else. The Impulse was clearly an ugly orphan in their corporate structure and it showed (although I think they still sell lots of Isuzu trucks out of that same location).

I wish I could find an identical replacement but in this area its V6 Genesis or nothing.

I went looking for my R-spec late in 2012 but discovered there were only 2 in the entire state and Earnhardt North Snottsdale had them both so I took out my checkbook and with shaky hand wrote them the full list price. The car I bought had just come from a show in downtown Phoenix and I had a feeling it would not have been there the next day if I quibbled about price. Only car I have ever bought this way (except for a 1970 VW Beetle which listed at $2000) but I'm glad I did. Although the V-6 is very nice too I love the power of the 5.0 and I am getting to the age where my next new car is probably going to be my last and I can't take it with me. BTW, Earnhardt is a drive from my house but worth the trip. They have been very professional with the one warranty item and one recall.

Good thing warranty is covering a lot of that stuff man that wouldve been SUPER expensive...

All those Genesis parts are super expensive IMO. My local dealer wanted $30 just to replace the cabin air filter.... I've never done it, but, took about 35-40 minutes first time out..... next time will take 10 mins. $30?? Bull hockey.... A few other items I'd like to replace (minor stuff) are just too expensive for what they are.... like door sills.

UPDATE: Returned the car to Chapman BMW in Chandler AZ on Saturday. They offered to pay $540 in "immediate attention" maintenance items that Hyundai found, along with the battery. We parted on future electrical or unknown shortened life span of the other components affected by the whole meltdown. They also declined to pay for the mirrors being replaced at $1800. I made the case they were safety related and them not working properly at time of purchase was their oversight in the service department. All in all, they were easier to deal with than expected and the car is theirs to wholesale or whatever. I miss the V8 and value luxury but I wont miss the future maintenance headaches. I wish I could find an identical replacement but in this area its V6 Genesis or nothing.

In the end, Chapman BMW in Chandler, AZ is the big stupid jerk.

Years ago, I bought a used VW Karmann Ghia from another brand dealer. Come to find out, the heater ductwork was rotted and exhaust fumes from the engine were being vented into the cabin via the heat exchanger. I had to take the dealer to court to get the car repaired at a VW dealer. Those were the Vietnam War days. I showed up in court in my Army dress greens and the judge ruled in my favor after about 10 minutes. The defendant/dealer almost plotzed when they saw me dressed up.
