Oil Change Frequency?

I have a new 2021 G90 and just noticed it is at almost 5800 miles so thought for sure it was due for an oil change. I had assumed that like most modern cars, I would get some kind of alert from the car that an oil change was due, but have not gotten one to date. Additionally, I do get monthly "vehicle health reports" from the Genesis Connected Services, and I can go in and also look at my current vehicle health, and there is nothing that says I am due for an oil change (oil change is not one of the health categories listed).

So I just checked the owners manual and it says oil changes are every 12 months / 7,500 miles (and my vehicle health report in fact says my next maintenance is at 7,500 miles.

This seems very long to me...are all you current owners waiting this long before oil changes and if so, no negative impact? Thanks!

Every car I've had since 1997 was 7500 miles from the book. I go 5000 by choice.

I personally would not wait that long to change my oil if I plan to keep the car over 100k miles. Long oil change intervals benefit dealership service departments and 3 year lease owners more than a person who will keep the car for a long time.

I change my oil in all my engines every 4k miles tops. My oldest engine is a Chevy 6.0 LQ9 V8 with over 200k miles and it purrs like a kitten. I use the same Valvoline 5w-30 high milesge oil in my 6.0 V8 and in my Genesis 5.0 V8 with 4k mile oil changes. Both engines runs like new.

We have 6 cars. I do at least annual oil changes in all, or usually about 6k for those that get driven that much. With today's modern oils, I feel anything more frequent is overkill.

Talking about oil, type, weight, and change intervals is a lot like discussing religion. I will just throw out that I don't think anything here is universal. I had a BMW that had 12K (or so) oil change intervals, and the engine in it was fine at 247K or so miles when my daughter totaled it (she was fine, just an airbag burn on her sweater). That said, I am doing 6K intervals on my G80 and Cadenza.

One thing we have not mentioned is climate and use. If you live in the north and never drive more that a few miles at a time, use the severe recommendations for your car. Usually about 3750 miles.

overly frequent oil changes can cause unnecessary wear on an engine as well, each oil change is essentially a dry engine restart in the few seconds for the oil pickup and pump to prime itself, start pumping oil, pressurize all the oil galleys and passages, fill the oil filter, and achieve full oil pressure.

If you use a good quality synthetic oil then parts will have a protective oil film that protects the engine from a "dry starts" so to say when the oil pump prime itself.

I’m a 5000 mile changer. My cars that use regular oil filters I always pre-fill the filter partially to mitigate start up dry issues as much as possible. My G70 with the filter cartridge, not so easy to pre-fill that housing. That couple of seconds it takes to fill the filter I think is a minimal issue for oil is still on all the moving parts.

My dealer scheduled OCI is every 10,000 KMs. I checked my oil today and it was really dirty, not just dark.. so I felt it was time for a change. I built myself some homemade ramps and changed the oil but not the oil filter. Maybe it didn't technically need it but I feel better anyways!

One could argue anything I suppose depending on how they look at the information given.

I’m a 5000 mile changer. My cars that use regular oil filters I always pre-fill the filter partially to mitigate start up dry issues as much as possible. My G70 with the filter cartridge, not so easy to pre-fill that housing. That couple of seconds it takes to fill the filter I think is a minimal issue for oil is still on all the moving parts.

I usually pre-fill my oil filter like in my Chevy engine. However, the Genesis filter is slanted so I just put some oil in the filter housing and so far so good. A few seconds of dry start on an engine that have been filled with synthetic oil may not even have any noticeable wear due to an protect film layer on the parts.

I have just over 4000km on the odo in my 2021 G80 Prestige. Was thinking about taking it to get the oil changed until I saw the interval schedule.... something like 8000km. I always went by 5000km. Do you think Genesis will do the complimentary maintenance early?

I notice that you have K & N Filter, do you get any benefit from them ?

I have a 2017 Genesis G90 5.0 Htrac Ultimate, I use the recommended oil that the service manual states. Which is Quaker State 5W-20 Full Synthetic, change it every 5000 Miles. My Vehicle runs wonderfully!

Purchased 2020 G90 V8 February 4, 2021. Oil changed at time of purchase at 656 miles as car had been in dealer stock for a year.
Had it changed yesterday (9/21/21) at dealer with 6,150 miles.

I know I am late to the game on this one and I think I know the answer, but wanted to get some feedback. I last had the oil changed on the 2021 G90 in December of 2024 at 42,000. I am now at 44,500, so not close to 6,000 mile interval (which is what I am used to). Should I stick with 6,000 miles or 6 months for frequency?

I do one year or 7,500... which I rarely get to.

I do 7000 miles with synthetic and don’t so much worry about dates. Car is driven fairly regularly and I’ve never heard of oil expiring before. But I have heard the 12 month interval recommendation so to each his own.
