  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 Equus and I have yet to find out how to get the oil change indicator to display. Is anyone else having this problem or does anyone know if the Equus even has one? The dealer could not find it then told me that it does not have one. I find this hard to believe. Thanks.

The Hyundai Genesis (and Genesis G80) specifies oil changes at mileage and/or time intervals as indicated in the Owners Manual. For example, 7500 miles or one year, whichever comes first, unless one is driving in "severe" conditions, in which case it is more frequent.

The Genesis does not use a calculator to determine oil changes based on driving conditions (in town, highway, etc). So, even though I am not an expert in the Equus, I would not be surprised that the 2013 Equus does not have an oil change indicator (especially since the 5.0 V8 is same one used in 2013 Hyundai Genesis V8).

I am not sure if I should start a new thread or not but the new issue I have is that I just took my 2013 Equus in for a oil change. I had gotten the oil changed at this particular Hyundai dealership since I got the vehicle over a year ago. Today the service guy comes back and says the screw to the oil pan was stripped when the techs put it back on and since my factory warranty just ran out, I would more than likely have to pay for a new oil pan. I was like what do you mean? You guys have done the last 4 or so oil changes. I told them that the screw was more than likely cross threaded while changing the oil. To me, this was a careless mistake on the part of the tech. Has anyone else had this issue? Please let me know. I do not know what I should do?

Tell the dealer that there is an indisputable record of all the dealer oil changes, and they need to replace the oil pan. If they refuse, contact the dealer management and tell them you will rake them over the coals with the news media on this one (your local TV station consumer affairs reporter will love this one).

It always amazes me when people ask me why I change my own oil.

Mechanics & plumbers have a bad habit of way over tightening things in the belief that they're preventing leaks and avoiding callbacks -- probably why the oil pan plug - or the pan itself - was stripped out. Probably some kid.

As an aside, one time many years ago, some guy (a kid) put a floor jack under the oil pan on one of my cars, and then jacked it up. Very nice - ruined the oil pan, of course.

It's funny that when I went to the back to gather things from my vehicle before getting into my cigarette smoke filled loaner, I noticed about 5 "techs" (kids) hovering around my vehicle with the OH SH*T look on their faces. These replies are most helpful. This forum is awesome. Thanks.

Just received a message from Keffer Hyundai that the oil pan has still not come in but he was able to contact California about charging me for the oil pan. He said Hyundai will pay a portion of the cost for the oil pan leaving me with an extra $150 to pay the balance. Again, this is due to the stripping of a screw that was done by the tech at the dealer. This is unacceptable. When this is over, never going there again.

It's not a warranty claim. Hyundai Motor America is not responsible. The claim is against your dealer for negligence, and they should pay the entire amount. If I were you, I would pursue the issue through small claims court, or some consumer advocacy group (local TV station consumer affairs reporter), or even the BBB.

The MSRP of the lower oil pan assembly (21510-3F000) is $76.39 and a new plug (21512-23000) is $3.26. The dealer cost is about 40% below MSRP.

Your dealership is a pathological liar and a criminal organization.

It worked! Thank you all for your advice. I went in and spoke with the service manager. I went in and told him if he did not make this right, my next stop would be the news station. Long story short, he said they would pay for the entire thing. Thanks forum!

No doubt the oil pan itself is steel. I think the plug/nut may be aluminum. Whatever, the plug must not be tightened with an impact driver. In my case the dealer overtightened the plug. This caused a slow leak, which I temporarily repaired with a new seal ring and lots of silicon rtv.
