  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ask 100 people and get 100 answers. To start, that 3000 mile figure you use is wrong too, used by oil change places to get you into the shop more often.

Most Genesis manuals state 3750 for severe use, 7500 miles for normal use. Same as my last couple of American cars too. If you use synthetic oil you can go even longer.

The guy in New England that uses the car for a lot of short trips needs to change more often than the highway driver in Alabama. Only you know your driving habits and climate so no one here can do more than give you basic guidance. I use every 6 months, but I know others that use once a year and have no problems. I'd use 1 year and 7500 as a maximum though.

Synthetic every 5k is what I do on all my cars.
Easy to keep track too.

3k is overkill in most circumstances. 7.5k is fine if you're going full-synthetic and not thrashing the car. However, if you do a lot of cold-weather short trips (oil temps not getting over 180F), then you'll have a lot more water/acid/gas/blowby build up in the oil pan and are likely in the "severe" category and more frequent oil changes are recommended (5k max).

Blackstone is a great resource for evaluating oil condition vs. your driving style and getting advice re: oil changes. I've used them for years and it helps with peace of mind.

Pennzoil Plat. every 5k miles here. NO ISSUES. I can tell the car even drives quieter and smoother.
Dont ever think it. :)
