  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Oil level/pressure light going on and off

I have a 2015 3.8 and have the same issue, but IMO not to fret, you do not have low oil pressure, it is likely either a sensor issue OR you are using an aftermarket oil filter. I know this sounds crazy but Hyundai makes their own oil filters and they fit tighter than an aftermarket filter which can allow oil to "blow by" the aftermarket filter causing the sensor to indicate low oil pressure. I am not a mechanic but I did a fair amount of research on this with a reputable auto repair shop testing different filters and spoke with a Hyundai dealership mechanic. Do this, buy an OEM filter at your Hyundai dealer, then take that filter to any auto parts store and compare the 2 filters, you will be amazed at the differences, the Hyundai filter is designed for your car, the others are designed for lots of cars, you will choose the Hyundai filter every time. Any mechanic can test your oil pressure and you will find out that your oil pressure is fine. The Hyundai filter needs to be pressed on with some force over the mandrel in the filter housing, but it's the one to use. You can often find oil change "deals" at your Hyundai dealer, but if you go to an independent shop either provide the filter yourself (my recommendation) or make sure they use a Hyundai filter, it makes a difference.

Just bought a 2018 G80 Sport with 58k miles. The oil light has come on, mostly at idle, and is intermittent, but sometimes it stays on for my entire drive. Of course it’s cold here in Chicago. They replaced the wiring harness, sensor, and gasket, but are now getting a SES light, not the oil pressure light, but it’s the same code as the oil pressure light. They are diagnosing that now to see what that could be.
I hope you are not paying for this but under some warranty.

I am not. Part of the agreement of me buying the car was that they would fix any in all issues related to that oil pressure light.

My OIL indicator light came on and like most of these posts state, it is only happening when the car is idling. I did call Hyundai service and the service tech said they aware of this issue happening with the oil pressure sensor switch. My car has 71K miles on it and is a 2019. Purchase my car as a pre-owned vehicle in 2021 from a Hyundai dealership. When I asked is this was covered under the powertrain warranty he is no, since I am NOT the original owner the warranty is only 5 years and 60k miles.
Can anyone verify that is true? I bought the car because of the 10year 100K warranty. Not happy!

He is correct. Only the first owner gets the 10 year/100K warranty.

I was told by the dealership that the fix is about $1200. It's a know defect. I saw a post, possibly on this thread a place where you can posts your complaint. I think if enough people complain, a possible recall can be done.

Seems really odd a car manufacturer would set up a filter manufacturing plant vs have them spec’s and built by a major filter company who already has the investment and equipment for manufacturing? I’ve always used WIX, thought it was really strange the WIX filter said made in Korea and appeared pretty identical to the OEM for height, fit and finish. How many filter manufacturers might Korea actually have making those filters? I was guessing whoever actually makes the WIX filter in Korea is probably the same who makes the OEM. Could be wrong. I’m sure there are some cheap aftermarket filters available, not sure I would include the Korean made WIX filter in that sentence though?
