  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2016 genesis 3.8L just had an oil change and now when I’m at temp the oil pressure light comes on, and I’m scared Imma have to rebuild this engine because I just financed this car 3months ago with no warranty.
I’m hoping it’s just a sensor, if my oil pressure was actually low there would be SOMETHING noticeable going on right?

Have you checked your dip stick? Have the codes pulled.

I’ve already had my codes pulled, there’s none to do with my engine, just a catalytic code I’ve been known about

Oil is at spec and correct viscosity, and oil is very clean, no metal flakes or anything dumb

And it only occurs when engine is warm

My guess would be the sensor is shot. I would start there

just got back from the mechanic, oil pressure is great, so yeah it’s the sensor
I literally cried when I saw it come on, especially since I do NOT have the money rn for a rebuild, and i could do without another bill rn
Thank you

My car as at the shop right now. At idle, especially on cold days, the oil pressure light would illuminate. This would go away once i started driving and only come on again once i stopped at a light or drive through.

The dealership ran a diagnostic and determined that the sensor was fouled due to sludge on the sensor. My third party warranty covered the repair because the dealership said they reported it as "faulty" and not due to sludge.

Its about a 900 dollar job to replace the sensor. Hope this helps.
