  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK - everyone be nice, now!

The base price of a BMW 528i is: Starting at $44,550 MSRP
3.0 liter, 6-cylinder engine
240 horsepower
Rear-wheel drive
32 mpg hwy*

Not sure how this is cheaper than the 4.6 Genny.

It was probably used.

I'm assuming since he was comparing a 2009 BMW to a 2011 Genesis, that the 2009 BMW was used. He said the value of the BMW had depreciated, and that he got a "brand new car" by going with the Genesis. I think those are added clues that he was comparing a used BMW to the Genesis which is why it was cheaper.

But I agree it wasn't clear when I first read it either.

Ooops...my bad. There are a lot of used cars that are cheaper than an new Genny. Missed that he was comparing a two year old BMW.

I should've made it more clear. My bad. I actually test drove alot more cars. It took me a little over 2 months to make my decision. I test drove:

2011 Audi A4 quattro premium package
-I absolutely loved the way it looked but I couldn't justify the price. They were trying to charge me $38,000 for the premium plus model. No V6, no intelligent key (only the prestige model had this feature and the price jumps to $45,000), no navigation, NO POWER front lumbar seats, No 18" wheels). I've always wanted an Audi but not even their LED headlights could convince me.

2011 Lexus IS250 AWD
-This car had almost all the features that Genesis had. (I was looking at the fully loaded model). I didn't like the visibility of the rear windows. It was hard to see and it definitely lacked power. It struggled a little bit when I tried to go up heel with a salesman and 2 of my friends in the back. I actually didn't like their new LED headlights (new with 2011). I felt like they were trying to copy Audi. I liked the fact that IS250 had cooled seats on passenger side as well though not to mention the navigation was touch screen.

2009 BMW 528i
-230 hp
-18/28 MPG
-22000 miles
-Premium, sports, cold weather package
-They were asking $31,000 for this car. I thought it was an amazing deal. Like I said, the shift knob was one of the coolest thing about the car. Another plus was the remainder of 4 year worry free maintenance. The 2008 model (same options) with 31000 miles was selling for $25,500. I got worried about the value depreciating so quick and I planned driving the new car for awhile so I was also worried about the maintenance cost after warranty expired.

I'm eager to see which vehicle you end up getting. Please let us know. You can't go wrong with either one. :)

you get excited about a shift knob? lol

how about quality of the seat, ride, and etc? I figure they would be lot more important than a shift knob :)

I must have been the exception - 86 635i, 88 535i, 91 325i, 94 M3 and the 06 330i were all good. When I traded in the 635, the dealer said the water pump was going and it needed an antilock brake sensor. The 535 needed a new head gasket. The others were perfect. Now any repairs would have been very expensive if out of warranty but the few I had were all covered.

That being said, a decently-equipped 328 will easily exceed $40k. The BMW lease rates are good but the Genesis is a better deal, which is why I am leaning that way.

I'll be very curious to see what you buy. I suspect that very few cars will approach the handling dynamics of most BMWs, and yet you'll get a lot more bang for the buck for the Genesis. While I don't have the formal evidence to support this, and thus I'd treat this as hearsay. Nevertheless the general guideline amongst my fellow car enthusiast friends is to sell a Beemer @ 50k miles.

You got that right. When I reluctantly bought my 328i convertible that my wife wanted it was a CPO car and I bought the full maintainance pkg for the full 100k miles. Pays for anything but tires($2000 runflats). Clutch, brakes, wiper blades, light bulbs, etc are replaced as needed until June 2013. I also told her that 60 days before the warranty expires, the car will be sold. I cannot even begin to list the number of new parts that BMW has replaced in the 2 years we have owned it. Other than the harsh ride that makes the Genesis feel like a Rolls, the BMW is a nice driver, on rough roads it feels like it is coming apart. A low mileage CPO BMW can be a good deal but you must be of a temperment that is not bothered by repeated trips to the service department. Just don't keep it past its warranty expiration.
