  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OMG - Mistaken for a Chrysler

Seriously, from a distance, most people wouldn't tell a difference between these two. They would say; both are Bentleys.

Heck.....if I didn't know about Genesis, I'd probably say the same thing. Those badges look alike, no?

At least, it doesn't look like Chrysler :D

I remember posting a pic to Instagram of my Gen1 before buying and somebody commented "is that a Maybach"? I was like "yes of course"

my dad said the same thing lol I was like what do you think I do for a living lol

Personally, not even a long ago, several years at most, even if Hyundai gave me a car for free, I wouldn't have driven one, I would rather drive another car using money out of my own pocket. Hyundai??? No thanks.

But now I like my genesis just fine. And I would think, a lot of people who are accustomed to luxury brands wouldn't give a second thought about genesis or equus. If their cars are mistaken for Hyundai, they would laugh silly.

Honestly, I like and dislike genesis emblem. Other car makers have been using smilar emblem much earlier than Hyundai. Infiniti, Acura, Lexus did just fine without making their cars or their logo get confused with other existing brands. But Hyundai, for whatever the reason, perhaps lack of imagination, put an emblem that looks so much like ones that are already used by other car makers.

So much so that, if Hyundai didn't do it, had no such logo, and a teenager put that log on his car for the first time, most people would call it a "poser" or "ricer".

Mine was mistaken for Chrysler and Bentley. For the Chrysler identity, he asked me if it is a chrysler. The Bentley identity , he approached me to ask if it was a Bentley. 😊

Quite a few people have commented to me that they thought the car looks like a 2015 300c SRT8 and also has a similar wing emblem to Chrysler. So to enlighten folks, I have pictures on my cell phone of the 2015 300c SRT8 to show them that these cars don't look anything alike and that the Chrysler emblem is much wider that the Genesis. Their reaction is always priceless. "Oh. I guess you're right. They don't look anything alike."

I've been asked twice if it was a Tesla. My coworker has a 2015 Infiniti Q70L and I park next to a lot. They don't look alike, but there are several small details that are very similar on both vehicles.

^^I definitely see the resemblence in the roofline between those three, but that's common with a lot of modern sedans. The exhaust finishers are the key giveaway that it's not a Tesla.

I've never been mistaken for anything (at least not that I've heard), but I have been asked what it is. I like to emphasize that it's a Hyundai Genesis. I've also gotten a lot of looks (even from high performance and luxury cars) and a couple of jaw-dropped stares.

Ditto on the Jaw Dropping Stares... Gotta love it :D

Just shows how clueless people can be about shapes/design (same thing for people mistaking the Genesis for a Bentley).

If the Genesis is going to be mistaken for a Chrysler, it would be the 200 (from the side) along w/ sharing a winged badge.

Agreed. Most of the general public have horrible attention to detail about certain vehicles. To date, folks have told me the car resembles/looks like an:
Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, Chrysler and Tesla.

Aside from the winged emblem, I really don't understand people mistaking a Genesis for a 200. It is a mid-sized car and the Genesis is a full-sized car.

Side profile has a lot of similarity, esp the roofline.

After driving one for two weeks for work I don't see how the 200 from any angle resembles a Genesis. Last generation Sonata maybe, from the side.

Funny. I have pictures on my cell phone to show people that my car *does* look like another familiar brand.... :-)

Earlier this afternoon, I saw a Chrysler 200 drive past me at an intersection. Absolutely reaffirmed my belief that the car looks nothing like the Genesis.
