  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

You could have knocked me over with a feather today. An envelope arrived from Hyundai Assurance. An enclosed preprinted card wished me a happy first anniversary with my Genesis and a Hyundai air freshener was enclosed. Yes, the kind of air freshener that you hang from the rearview mirror. Big whoop, eh? Come on, Hyundai, you can do better than that!

Kinda like buying the wife a jug of Tide for her birthday. The thought counts, but not much.

Its like getting a Christmas gift thats from the Dollar Tree store with bad Chinese to English translation. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Its not what should be done for a Luxury car buyer. A nice writing pen with maybe a Hyundai or Genesis logo on it would have been in better taste.

I've owned lots of cars, and have never gotten anything, so a card sounds great!

A pack of Juicy Fruit Gum would have been I grander touch than a Hyundai logoed air freshener. I don't think that Lexus would have done the same thing. Much as I love my Genesis, the ES 350 was contention until the final days of my purchase decision. Over at the Lexus store, one can buy many nice trinkets to celebrate their luxury automobile lifestyle. I don't ask much from Hyundai in that vein, but I would like to buy a nice Genesis coffee mug for a reasonable price. Instead, we get air fresheners.

In another life, I participated in several customer interest/satisfaction focus groups sponsored by various manufacturers, including Chrysler. I wonder if Hyundai is holding any such forums in the USA? If so, I'm sure a few of us here would like to receive an invitation. Typically, you get paid anywhere between $50-$100 to participate for a couple of hours. It's highly interesting event. Representatives of the manufacturer sit behind one-way glass watching the participants comment on the various products. I am sure that Sandy, our member from Connecticut, is well-versed on focus groups.

Hyundai did a focus group in the L.A. area about 6-7 months ago. Not quite like the one you described (I've done those before) but it was interesting to say the least. It was much more involve dthan nyour average focus group.

I wonder if anybody here attended? The day I went most of the participants were new Genesis owners.

Many of us are members of the Hyundai Think Tank.

They don't pay us anything, but there are some nice contests and the occasional trinket.

When I was still working back in the 80's, Focus Groups became a growth industry because they were so inexpensive a way to generate "research". We used them a lot on behalf of our ad agency clients. In my view, they are fun for the participants, lucrative for the moderators and important cover-your-ass documents for the Brand Manager/Designer/Ad Agency, etc trying to move an idea up the chain of command in the corporate structure. By virtue of the small sample size, results were not projectible. But they did provide the presenter with "research" to support proposals for new designs, product enhancements, package changes, commercials etc.

Also, the sandwiches they usually served were very good.

Never gotten anything from a vehicle manufacturer. Though our Subaru dealer salesman does send my wife a hand written card on the anniversary of our purchase and on her birthday. FWIW, we had a good experience there and if she does decide on another Subaru we will likely go back to him despite there being 3 closer dealers.

Ernie - At first I was going to chide you about "no good deed going unpunished" but then when I put your gift from Hyundai in perspective, I see your point. Last week I received in the mail an offer from Lexus for a $75 prepaid Visa card and from Cadillac for a $100 prepaid Visa card for simply stopping in and test driving the model of my choice.

Agreed, Sandy. I'd rather not get anything at all from Hyundai if they can't afford a better gift than one crummy air freshener.
