  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bought the car used out of state and came with only one key. A second key would be a good idea so what's the best way and least expensive way to get one.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Regardless of what you spend for the key, you'll have to pay Genesis to program it to your car. That costs over $100 I believe. My used G70 only came with one fob too but I was able to convince the seller (Ruby Car) to buy an extra. They're $500 new!

Not necessarily. Many locksmiths can do it. They have to buy a token from Hyundai to do it, but I think that is about $25, so they may still charge under $100 to do it.

Book price on the fob itself is $230, but you can buy off the internet for $100 or less. The trick is getting it programmed. If you find a local shop that can do it... perfect. Otherwise, dealer service dept is you surest bet. How much they charge will likely vary. Some will no doubt rake you over the coals for it.

Our '23 Kia Stinger only came with 1 key fob. I called around my area and the best answer I got was "we should be able to program it". Sure I can get the fob from an online seller at a discount, but if I have no assurance that I can get it programmed, it might end up being an expensive paperweight. I call my local Kia dealer, and they quoted me book price on the fob of around $200. They wanted $95 for programming it. I figure $300 for a replacement fob isn't too bad, so that's what I did.

BTW, the Kia dealer quoted me another $100 for a mechanical key cut to my VIN #. I said, no thanks. I just bought blank keys off a Korean direct seller for cheap. I could probably get it cut to match my existing key at a local locksmith, but of all my cars had/have remote keyless start, I have used their mechanical keys exactly ZERO times. So, no big hurry to get it done. Besides, it's for a backup fob anyway.

Google mobile key guys or makers, or something equal. In MN we have keyguys and they come to you and do it all.

I bought a Genesis OEM fob off of eBay for about $40 and quickly programmed it with my Launch X431 Pro. I gave up on getting the emergency key after being told by 4 different locksmiths that they don’t have the special cutter required to do it. I didn’t call the dealer.

Here is the latest on the fob experience. Got a like new although it looks like it's never been used off ebay for $45. My local dealer plus other locksmiths want 150 to $168 (dealer) to program. Called a small dealer about 65 miles away and he'll do it for $50. Appointment is out to 1/24/24 which is no big deal. I'll update next month with the outcome.

Glad you found someone to do it. If it’s like my 2019 G80 he will actually have to program both fobs. If you do only one then the other will not work.

When I got my replacement fob programmed by the dealer service dept, I specifically requested that all other fobs stored in memory be erased, for obvious security reasons. The only way to do that is if I gave him the one fob that came with my car.
