  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just took delivery of my 2021 2.5 G80 yesterday. LOVE IT! So much technology. Spent yesterday driving and playing with it all. Trying to figure it all out. Getting there.
So I stop to eat. It is dark when I get back to car. Open door and note that interior lights do not come on. Looked in settings in the car, read the section in owners manual on "interior lights". Could not figure it out.

HELP PLEASE

Every vehicle I’ve ever owned has a button, or a simple slide switch, on the ceiling near the rearview mirror to control door and interior lighting. Naturally, it was dark and you couldn’t see well. Don’t give up hope. When dawn breaks, you can easily locate the necessary button, no doubt in the same place, right up there by your rearview mirror. I carry a tiny pocket flashlight in my console for just such emergencies, for example when I drop an M&M on the floor.

Looked, could not find any button or slide switch.
Anybody out there that has a 2021 G80 have an answer?

Look where the controls for the sunroof are. If it is like others, there are three switches up there.

What’s that lighting group unit on the headliner at 7:31 in this video, right between the rearview mirror and the sunroof????? No, that’s not the gas tank. That’s the place where the lamps and lamp control buttons reside. Press them. Caress them. Get to know them intimately.

Why are you posting on my thread when you clearly know nothing about the G80? Yes, I know all about the lamps and lamp control buttons. They have nothing to with controlling whether or not the lights come on when the doors are opened. Please give it a rest already.

Yeah, it's not like he has one or anything. It's also not like he had the correct answer, according to your owner's manual.

Thanks - that was first thing I searched for (interior lights) in owners manual. But unless I am really thick, I do not think it has anything to do with explaining how to configure car as to whether or not lights come on or not when you unlock door and open it? Still searching for answer.

One possible answer - something is broken and I need to take it in for service

But at 7:31 it shows where the buttons are. Did you push them?

For godsakes, push the DOOR LAMP BUTTON.

PMCErnie - I owe you a big apology.

I did press the "door mode switch" this morning". But did not realize it was an on/off switch. Must have pressed it twice. Should have known better, it has an led to indicate on/off. Guess I was overwhelmed with all the tech I have been trying to absorb. No excuse, just an explanation.

Anyway - the description of the "door mode switch" in the owners manual is very confusing. A few minutes ago I read the following in the G80 Quick Reference Guide: When the Door Mode Switch is pushed, map lamp and rear room lamp turn on if any door is opened and will turn off after all doors are closed. Went to my car, pressed the switch (noted that the LED came on and now stays on). And Voila - works just fine.

To all that tried to help - thanks.

👍👌 It’s the same as most vehicles have been for years. Actually, I believe it should be a three setting switch.

- Lights always on

- Lights always off

- Lights on when front doors open.

My wife - who I'm looking this up for - asks "How the F would you know that's the door lamp button" - she's hesitant to press any buttons since odd things seem to happen when she does... voices, robots, who knows?

You could look in the manual. Easier if you download the PDF version.
