  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Open Letter to Genesis Motors - How I'd Improve the G80

Very conservatively 70% of Genesis service departments are incredibly bad! They just don't care and are proud of it. I was hoping that after the nightmare of the Hyundai service departments the separate Genesis service departments would be better. Unfortunately the Hyundai dealerships just transferred the idiots from Hyundai over to Genesis.

What is your idea to correct it? Does your high school offer shop classes?

I would love to know where your 70% comes from. I have dealt with 2 dealerships for service (one a Hyundai the other a new Genesis stand alone) and in both cases service has been exceptional. So I guess I could say conservatively 100% of Genesis/Hyundai service departments are incredibly outstanding!

Ok, so I won't claim that there aren't issues with Genesis dealers to include in many areas a lack of dealers but, to say what you have, you personally must have had a pretty bad experience(s) with one or more dealers. And, while many have had similar negative experiences, there are also many who have had positive ones. And I have noticed that as more stand alone are coming online, the reviews I have read here are mostly positive. They still have a ways to go but, I believe, things are getting better.

I would also be curious how you know "idiots" have simply been transferred. Did you actually deal with the same person(s) at 2 different dealerships?

Again, I am in no way questioning your experiences but to state what you did is a different story. Are there any facts to back up the 70% or is it simply that as I believe, that 82% of all statistics are made up? BTW don't look that up or quote me on it because, surprise, I made the 82% up.

My Genesis dealership recently fully transitioned to a standalone. That said, both the Hyundai and Genesis dealerships share service technicians and the service manager. Missed notes, lack of proper troubleshooting and laxed follow up impacted our service experience there. In this instance I believe this issues stem with the ownership group, so much so that the new GM just left and took half the sales team with him.

Not sure what the newer cars have, but I cannot understand why the rear AC controls on the 2019 base G80 cannot be set to follow the front AC settings. If the rear set to hot and the front is set to cold, I have to pull over and reach back there and set it manually. I have to say it's the most frustrating thing on my G80.
I bought a 2018 afew weeks ago. Put my hand on the back and it was so hot. I was thinking the same thing. This is stupid. But I just turn it off. It is what it is.

That's exactly the same as my 18 G80 sport had. I remember one day when I couldn't cool the car down and couldn't figure out why. I reached back like you said you do and, to my surprise, the air was coming out super hot. So not sure by who but, someone had changed the back setting to heat. Learned my lesson that day to check it now and again.

It really is nice now to be able to control it from the front in I agree that it was a bit of a pain to reach back between the seats to adjust it.
How do you control it from the front. All you can do is turn it off from the front so no air is blowing from the back but no temperature control...

But the thing is, the air is still delivered to the vents even when it's closed off. The ducts travel under the center console. Try running your heater with the rear vents closed, your center console will heat up warmer than you'll like.

Specific to the G80-E, there is no reason that a prestige trim shouldn't have heated rear seats.
not sure if there is a hardware limitation but the lack of wireless CP/AA is glaring.
Ditto! This is part of the Hyundai Limited trim, it should be in the Genesis trims.

Genesis Motors executives have been watching this community for years. They've also made improvements to their vehicles based upon what they've read here. They are listening to you.

This discussion will serve as a quick and easy way for Genesis Motors executives to gauge interest and help make decisions moving forward.

As a G80 driver, you should state exactly what you'd like to see enhanced, added, and/or omitted from your Genesis G80.

Any posts that don't stick to the subject matter will be moved elsewhere.
I would like to see them figure out how to upgrade my 2018 G80 Sport, 3.3T to 5G, or something equitable, so that I can use the connected services app for the remote start, etc. It seems quite the error to market an "upscale" car that is stuck in 3G, when you knew the change was coming (the G90's could be upgraded, why not the G80's?).

Hey Genesis.

Kick out the dash designers and replace them with the engineers that know proper presentation of engine instrumentation. The 2024 G80 is an abomination for having a tachometer the that rotates counter clockwise. I can hear the designer "Oh look at my pretty dash, the speedometer needle and the tachometer needle are perfectly opposite of each other.." It is just wrong. The 2020 G80 had a superb dash with properly located gauges.
BMW has done that also. I also thought it was wrong.

Hey Genesis,
How about an OTA so that the driver's seat "Seating Easy Access" has a selection button to make the seat move back on the condition Car is in Park + driver's door open. instead of Car is off + driver's door open. I would love to get the mail easily without turning my car off.

Hey Genesis,
How about an OTA so that we get HDA2 like the Hyundais.

How many drivers do you have? In my case, only one. Program the button for driver 2 to move the seat back.

Engine from g90 into the g80. the one that is mild Hybrid
Heck....ditch the dual turbos. make the electric turbo like Porsche 911
that would get ditch 2 old school turbo and electric supercharger
add in that electric turbo wo might save weight and hopefully remove a few parts.
I think the bigger battery eliminates room for a spare tire.

My understanding is that heated and cooled rear seats are reserved for only the G90

Apparently, getting a hybrid option in 2026 (probably for the 2027MY) - likely being a reworked version of the new 2.5T HEV power plant that's first going into the new Palisade.

I believe the GV80 Coupe has heated and vented (cooled) rear seats
