  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Open Letter to Genesis Motors - How I'd Improve the GV70

Please abandon/ditch your plans for the huge, ugly rectangle digital screen on the 2026 GENESIS GV70, it is HIDEOUS!

The current digital dash, tastefully integrated into the dashboard with the separate digital screen is a much better design that seamlessly integrates into the complete design flow of the interior.

The big, sterile, HYUNDAI RECTANGLE you are planning on tacking onto the GENESIS GV70/GV80 LOOKS TACKEY and is definitely NOT GENESIS quality, or design.

I love the new big screen. It looks modern and makes the 14.5-inch screen look outdated. Genesis is not going to remove the screen in the 2026 GV70. I hope Genesis releases augmented reality for the US models, which will look great on the 27-inch screen. I look forward to getting the 2026 electrified GV70 with the big screen next year.

I love the OLED panels, but I really don't like the design - it definitely looks just tacked on...the dash doesn't curve around it or shade it from the sun which will be a problem. This is NOT a 27" screen either - it is two regular screens stuck together. So it isn't any different from the current displays other than it's just a rectangular slab now. And to make it worse, every single Hyundai, Kia, Genesis vehicle I've seen this year have exactly the same screen tacked on top of the dash. The Genesis vehicles are losing a huge part of their personality so they can get a utilitarian, standard part stuck on as an afterthought. Very disappointing.

The screen is OLED with bright, sharp colors and will not get washed out by the sun, so no shade is needed. The screen is a deal breaker for some people, but it's not for me. It's an improvement: the screen is one piece and will display the navigation across the entire screen. As soon as I saw the screen in the GV80, I knew it would be incorporated into the GV70 refresh, so it was no surprise to me. The refreshed GV70 will also offer other improvements, but I want the electrified version, and as stated before, I will be getting it next year.

Absolutely true.

This massive, tacky HYUNDAI rectangle is on all of their vehicles. It looks like a CHEAP, STYLE LESS design that has been tacked on.

Definitely does not convey GENESIS design brand, style, sport, or luxury.

It's a HOT MESS.

True when it is brand new, but OLED (unlike LCD) fades with use.

I've learned that technology continually advances, and the panel's lifespan can be prolonged. I've read that OLED provides excellent contrast, but its longevity depends on user application, such as power-on hours, contrast settings, storage environment, and operating environment. The less time the screen remains on, the longer its lifespan. Since I usually only keep a new car for up to three years, this will be fine for me. I'm looking forward to using it next year. :)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is I would like for the auto-dimming mirror to have a manual on/off button. I've looked everywhere and there seems to be no way to disable it. Many times I have tried to look at my rearview mirror at night and cannot see anything because its dimming is activated and it looks pitch black through the factory tinted rear window even though there's actual ambient light around like street lights. It has annoyed me so much that I've considered filing a complaint with the NHTSA as this seems to be non-compliant with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for rear visibility.

Another thing I would like to see added is a way to use the same light projection technology already on the sideview mirror to light the curb at night when I'm parking. I rely heavily on the 360 cameras to avoid curbing my wheels, but visibility is very poor at night. Having some light shine on the curb would help immensely.

Other items I've seen on here that I agree with:

1. Proximity auto-opening of rear hatch should be changed to foot wave. Many times I have been washing the back of my car and I suddenly start to try and get away from it when I start to hear the beeping warning that the rear hatch is about to open. Then I gotta go back inside to leave my keys to prevent it from happening again. I realize I can disable it, but sometimes I do need that feature when I have my hands full.

2. Air circulation on ventilated seats should be stronger. Sometimes I wonder if it's even working.

3. Fingerprint sensor should be improved. Takes me like 3 or 4 tries, sometimes more and it gets frustrating. My $30 fingerprint entry door lock for my house that I got on Amazon works on the first try 99% of the time.

4. Not sure if it was already here, but USB-C fast charging ports would have been nice to have on my 2024 GV70. USB-A makes the car seem to have outdated tech, not to mention USB-A connections are not as reliable as USB-C. I've had multiple issues with some cables not working while using Android Auto.

5. Built-in dashcam feature with SD card slot would be nice to have.

6. Better ambient lighting controls. The color selection seems very limited. The footwells should be part of the ambient lighting too. It would have been nice too if the door sill plate was illuminated.

7. I wish Android Auto navigation with Google Maps could be integrated to show you the directions on the dashboard like it does with the native navigation. I've tried using the native navigation just because I like to have the directions right on the dashboard, but it's not as reliable as Google Maps with live road updates. To add to this, why can't I control the navigation voice volume on the fly?? Why do I need to go deep into the settings for this? Ironically, I can do this easily when using Google Maps on Android Auto.

I would be mostly concerned with the image being burned into the screen - especially speed/tach - they never change so that will definitely burn in over time.

I'm not worried about that at all. If it happens, I will contact Genesis and have it warranted. As I mentioned, I plan to get it next year, and I'll let you know if I encounter any issues. I notice you have the gas version. If I were you, I'd be more concerned about rear differential issues than an OLED panel that has yet to hit the market. Genesis is moving ahead with the panel in all their upcoming cars. So, if it's a deal breaker for some, they can explore other options for vehicles with pop-up screens on the dashboard.

I'll say this.....if you find the new display off-putting, I'd buy a pre-2026 model. Give the redesign a couple of model years to percolate, and by then if the public reaction is viscerally negative enough that it has a measurable effect on sales, I guarantee they'll re-do the design, likely reformatting the dash to better integrate the panel. That's my plan at least.

I have seen the proposed display in the GV80 and GV60 and while I don't mind it, I also don't like how they've stationed it in the '26 refresh videos I've seen. Let's see how this goes.

Also, Hyundai may be paying attention to these forums so what we see now may not be EXACTLY what shows up in showrooms next July/August (per my sales rep, that's the earliest they're expecting delivery).

I'm an IT guy who has had to deal with OLED screens and I can say it WILL be a problem eventually...just a matter of how long.

The vent placement on the new 2026 model is horrendous to say the least, they removed the climate controls and placed the vent there. Seriously, what is the design team doing.

EREV for the GV70 has been confirmed (about 2 years out).

100% agree! With many other car mfgs going to a similar long & thin computer monitor dash, nothing is unique ... they all look the same. The GV70 interior dash personality is gone. I hope potential buyers send a strong message. I won't buy/lease a 2026 GV70. I am buying out our lease (lots of equity) in June 2025. I love our 2022 GV70 Prestige. Tom H.

Give a horn beep when remotely locking the car.

Make auto dimming headlights stay set.

Change the gear shifting dial to something different, a small electronic lever would work.

I agree....would much rather have a more "normal" gear shift. I'm pretty used to the dial, but something with a lever or handle would be more instinctive to operate.

The one functional thing I'd like is for the GV70 EV (23) to not have the car change the regenerative break setting back to 3 every time. The first thing I have to do every time I start driving is change it. Why not let that be like setting the seats and let it be dictated by the driver profile or drive mode? Also I think it is like the GV80 and makes you hit "confirm" on the stupid splash screen every time you get in the car and if so you should be able to press "do not show me this again" and be done with it.

All that said, the is an amazing car and I'm being very picky to come up with these complaints. Hard to imagine being happier with a car.

As for the new screen, definitely add me to the list of people who prefer the older cabin to the new ones with the monolithic screen. It just doesn't have the elegance of the older models. I hope by the time I'm ready to replace mine they've either gone back to the old style or come up with a more elegant new one.
