  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Open Letter to Genesis Motors - How I'd Improve the GV80

Am I correct that the garage door buttons are disabled once the car is powered down? The entertainment system stays powered up until the door is opened. Why not the garage door buttons?
Not hard to understand that one. It's a safety feature. Do you really want a smash-and-grab car thief to have easy access to your garage or even the inside of your house by pressing a simple button inside your car? Granted if you always park in a garage it may not be a concern but lots of people do park their cars in the driveway or on the street. I don't know any manufacturer that lets you activate homelink buttons with the power off.

Yes, your right but that safety issue can be voided if they make it like my wifes non Genesis car The buttons like windows, garage door and such, will remain active for 30 seconds after you shut down the engine and then disable. That way, you can pull into the garage, shut off your engine and then lower the garage door. I think that is a better way to do it. I park in the driveway and I like to go into my house through the garage. I am old and most of the time I shut off the engine before I open the garage door and I have to restart the car or push the ignition twice with my foot off the brake to open the door or if a passenger had not closed their window.

My 2014 Nissan Maxima homelink would work when the car was off but maybe that was because I had the fob with me.

No, my Nissan Titan was always powered on too. Not good. You could open the garage if you broke in. I like not having power to the system. I always use the wall switch to close my garage.

I would write a small note on a post-it and keep it by the shifter. Something that says "Open Garage" that way you'll get in the habit of opening the garage door before you turn off the car and in no time it will be second nature to you.

I just tested my 22 Pathfinder and Homelink is always powered on.

It's been over 3 years now and I still do it. It would be nice (For me anyway) if I did not get locked out of my garage door opener and window control for 30 seconds after I shut off the engine. I guess I got spoiled by my wife's and my last car doing that. It is something I can and have lived with, but I would rather not.

Currently, the most annoying item is the Lane Control eye monitor. After turning it on, it works as designed for about 20 seconds if that, and then the alarm goes off telling me to keep my already kept eyes on the road. Next, the ringing continues and then shuts off the cruise control and lane assist. Useless piece of electronics. No settings are available to correct. The electronic suspension really appears no better than the standard shock absorbers. There is no SPARE TIRE on the high end but there is for the Hyundai Palisades. Beautiful car but not without issues.

You should have it checked out. I have a 2023 and have no such issue.

I have a GV80 and love it, but there could be a few improvements.

1. I know we are not supposed to look at our phone while driving, but you see people all over with attachments to their windows or dash for phones. I wish Genesis would provide a place to put your phone where you can easily see it. I prefer to use Waze for navigation because it tells you where the police are, lol. I don't have one of the attachments that you buy, so sometimes my phone goes sliding which could cause an accident.

2. Another thing would be to have a key pad on the outside of the car for a code to open the doors, like my husband's vehicle has. When I go kayaking, I don't want to take a lot of things with me. And, if I should tip over (heaven forbid) and I had my key with me, it could be lost and I would not be able to get into my car (phone would be in car too).

3. And, one more thing. It would be nice to have a place like a cup holder for little things that need to be easily accessible like a pen or an important piece of paper, etc. I know we have the compartment in between the seats, but sometimes we need things easily accessible.

So, those are my suggestions. If I would see these on a new Genesis, I would definitely buy another one.

How about independent panoramic roof shades.

Now for me I was trying to opt for no panoramic roof at all since I don’t care for such things yet they are in all of my vehicles lol.

I have a 2024 GV80 Prestige and I continue to have a "Love - Hate" relationship with this vehicle. I love the style of the car and the refinement of the interior. Seats are comfortable and adjustments work well; the chrome wheels are great, it rides well, and the sound of the optional stereo is outstanding. However, I hate the transmission because when you are moving let's say around 35 mph and then press on the accelerator gently to move into the other lane, NOTHING HAPPENS! You find yourself having to press harder and then the car jumps ahead. I have yet to find a solution and the technicians at the dealership "couldn't find a problem". I believe another person in this blog has reported a similar issue and I'm sure there are others. Along the same lines, when you are moving (at any speed) and take your foot off the accelerator and let the car slow down and then have to press hard on the accelerator, the car "stutters" before it speeds up. I'm familiar with turbo-lag and this is something else entirely. Why does this happen on a $80,000 car?

The navigation system is basically useless. After it took me to the wrong address three times, I gave up and now use my phone. This was after I went through the 2 hour process of updating the software. There is no detail on the maps, the colors are boring and trying to add or subtract information or even navigate through the system is very tedious. Why does this happen on a $80,000 car?

The controls for the climate control and seat heat/cool touch screen and fan speeds are way too sensitive. Quite often the car locks itself when I walk by, the remote start on the key fob does not always work. I could go on and on, but what's the point? Why does this happen on an $80,000 car?

I have owned both Lexus and BMW cars and have had zero issues with either. If the Koreans want to compete with the top luxury vehicles, they have a lot of work to do. It seems they have tried to add a lot of very nice features into their cars but haven't worked out the kinks yet. Unless they improve their models substantially, I will not purchase another one.

My issue is lack of in stock parts and the fact that if you breathe heavy the darn battery dies !!!!’

You clearly have a problem with acceleration. Not everyone has it. What do you mean technicians at the dealership "couldn't find a problem" Did you ride with them and demonstrate the issue?

I find the nav much better than Apple or Google. Have you ever tried on Apple to change or add a destination while you are driving. You could get yourself killed while looking at the screen. Apple CarPlay doesn’t use the full screen and only shows the next turn. Native Nav is not perfect but neither is Apple for me. Personal preference.

Try changing the battery in your fob.

So did you buy this car new? How long have you had it?

Of course I rode with the technician and tried to demonstrate the problem but the car wouldn't do it. The acceleration issue is intermittent and I plan to pursue it with another dealership. It doesn't surprise me that you prefer the Genesis navigation since you own a 2025 model. With all the issues I kept hearing about it on this forum and elsewhere, Genesis knew they had a problem and obviously made some changes. Mine is a 2024 model and I bought it new. It just really ticks me off that I have to use my phone when I paid for what I thought was a decent navigation system on their top of the line model.

I am a current Genesis owner. Its a GV70 AWD 3.5T Sport Advanced with a Melborne Gray (Macalu Gray Matte) and an Obsidian Black Interior. I love my car. I was looking to upgrade to a GV80 Coupe but am very disappointed in the color options.

If I want the same Macalu Gray Matte the only option is RED interior. I am not going through a mid-life crisis and do not need RED interior. I look at my genesis as a classy car, and gray matte with black interior is classy.

Is there any way to custom order directly from Genesis?

Push the button as you approach or pull into the driveway. Problem fixed.

If only I could remember to do that the problem would be solved. But thanks.
