  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I finally got my car back today after having the panoramic roof replaced for seal peeling and a rattle. The car now is whisper quiet.(Total cost was 5600$ by the way. Material cost almost 4k$. I paid nothing out of pocket).

On my drive back home, directly in my line of sight , noticed 2 small windshield chips that are new. No cracks in the glass however. I also noticed a small chip in the wood inlay of the driver's door. It is very small and only noticeable if you have a keen eye. My beige leather seats looked smeared with grease that was inadequately cleaned, even though they told me the car was "detailed".

I'm only a few miles away from the dealership. What should I do?

1. Just ignore the glass and wood damage, and keep driving home. They're pretty minor after all.

2. Drive back to the dealership and point the damage to the service manager and hope they do something about it.

3. Drive back to the dealership and demand to have the windshield and the wood inlay replaced.

I have been driving an Elantra as a loaner for 3 days and i can't tell how elated i was getting back in my Genny. Wow what a difference.

P.S. I already settled the situation with the service manager. I just wanted to hear how you guys would have handled it. I will share what i did with you at a later time.

Depends on how certain I was as to preexisting conditions or not. I would go back esp for the glass, but not make demands.

Yup - I'd do the same.

I worked for over 2 decades in auto dealerships. For a part of the time I was the Comptroller. Each dealership I worked at in that capacity, I had an account set up called Customer Accommodation, to handle events such as this. The Service Manager had control of that account. If he felt we were in the wrong, he would fix the vehicle. In the case you mentioned, we would have probably repaired your vehicle. However, if a person came in for an oil change and complained after leaving that we chipped the wood in the interior and put chips in the windshield, we most likely would have not offered to do any sort of repair. Each circumstance is different.

After I drove the car back to the dealership I went to my service adviser and asked to show her the car. Prior to me leaving I told her that I will be taking the car for a test run to make sure the rattle has resolved. If I find any issues with the car I would be coming back.
So she kind of was expecting that I would be returning.
She immediately called the service manager who then asked the glass tech to come look at it. To be honest I wasn't even upset. I just wanted to point out to them what had happened and had no expectations . Since the chips on the wood and the glass are not "fixable", the service manager initially hesitated and was unsure of what to do. He then told he will be replacing the windshield and the wood trim for me.
I had nothing to say to him but thanks. I still feel it's an overkill, and if the chip wasn't in my line of sight I wouldn't even bother with the replacement. I know they're not supposed to damage your car but things happen. I'm glad they owned up to it.
