  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings, new to the forum. The above problem was just noticed. I recapped the gas tank, light still on. I"m hoping a filter or oil issue even though the oil change notice has not appeared. Earliest servicing in first week of Jan. Is the car driveable locally until then??thanks

If the light was from an overfilled gas tank or loose cap it may take some number of drive cycles to go off.

thanks for your reply. I recently filled with gas but only to 3/4 full and gas cap felt secure when I checked it. I"ll take if for a drive locally but will hold off on the long trips till I get servicing the first week of Jan. Was also interested whether still driving this for a while is safe, but perhaps a few local trips would be ok. thanks again

...I"m hoping a filter or oil issue ...
That's a very strange and bad thing to be hoping for. If a filter or "oil issue" turned the check engine light on, then is would be very bad and likely very expensive. The check engine light does not come on (ever) for low oil level or oil needing to be changed, nor does it monitor filter performance. There are hundreds of other things that can cause the light to come. In general, if it is on solid and the car is running okay, it is not an emergency and you have some time to get it checked out. It if is flashing, you need to stop driving and get it looked at right away, as further damage may be occurring.

very good, thanks for the reply. The light is not blinking and the car otherwise runs fine. Will use it for short local trips till the service appt the first week of Jan. MXmas to all

Go to AutoZone or Advance Auto (or other local auto parts shops) and have them read the freaking code.

That is not the smartest idea. Get it checked out ASAP.

yup will do..only avail. appt. is first week of Jan. so will use wife's car till then

will autozones work affect any warranty on the car??

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
AutoZone won't work on your car just provide the check engine light code. Once you get the code post it here and we can give you some advise on how serious it is.
