Orange Peel Paint Job

I have a 2011 Sapphire Blue Genesis and It has orange peel. Does anyone else’s?

I think that most any car can look like it has "orange peel" under certain lighting conditions i.e. flourescent lights, and that its more noticable with certain colors. I wouldn't worry about it too much as I'm sure your as anal as I am and nobody else will notice it. Enjoy your car. Too late to do anything about it right now anyways, right?

My car had a minor paint imperfection on the strip that runs along the edge of the roof above the B pillar on the driver's side. I didn't notice it until weeks later, and never brought it to the dealer's attention. I was at a body shop on other business one day and had them take a look: their impression was that it is a factory defect that should have been caught during inspection. They said they might be able to wet sand and buff it out, but repainting would be prohibitively expensive for such a minor item. I still haven't done anything about it, but it does indicate that - no big surprise here - defects are possible.

My Platinum Genesis has a paint imperfection about the size of a tennis ball along the top edge of the rear driver's side door. I, too, didn't notice it until a week after I bought the car. It is very obvious indoors under fluorescent lighting, in a parking lot under amber-color lights, or when the sun hits it at just the right angle.

The dealer states that there's never been a repair done at their dealership, nor at the factory (that they know of). I brought it to my local dealership (different from the one where I bought it), and they are having a zone manager look at it tomorrow.

The defect is under the clear coat, and it doesn't look like an after-the-fact repair job. It looks like perhaps the metal was contaminated in that area before the paint when on.

Just heard back from the dealer...

They're repainting the door.

A repaint on a $38,400 vehicle that is 3 weeks old!

If I weren't leasing the car, I'd been really upset.

Are you sure you want them to repaint the door? I would rather live with a little orange peel on a lease car instead of a huge door that does not match factory paint job.

Except that it's Hyundai's car and they can resolve it however they want, right?
That's always been my attitude toward a lease cuz they're the ones who have to deal with resale value if I walk away at the end. Either this will turn out like new (and possibly worth buying later), or it's their problem.
That said, I'd be very upset with this problem if I'd purchased.

I haven't noticed any paint problems but I wouldn't get a small spot repainted.

If it were me, I wouldn't have it painted. Until the end of the lease, it is a borrowed car. If the owner, I guess Hyundai in this case, wants to paint it, good for them. I certainly wouldn't want it after it was painted. No way I would buy it at the end of the lease. Say what you want, it is hard to match factory paint to the paint shop.

The paint on my 2011 is smooth as glass over entire car. If yours is just in one area then most likely it was repaired due to damage in shipping. I purchased a new Buick back in 1977 and discovered such a repair and asked the dealer to let me see the damage report and they did. If you have orange peel in an area the dealer can fix that by sanding the clear coat and repainting the clear coat in the orange peel area. I had to have such a redo on my restored 1965 Mustang which I am very very anal about, the redo turned out perfect.

My paint isperfect throughout. I would rather them replace the door with another cars (someone who isn't as picky as you or me).
A repaint is never NEVER as good as factory for blend, hardness and durability.
