  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ordering Process Frustrations

I'm wondering what yalls experience has been with the dealerships and the ordering process of a genesis. I have been trying to get my hands on a GV80 prestige at MSRP for months now and am getting more and more frustrated with dealerships. I have put a deposit down (1k refundable) on an allocation for a new one, they said 2023 orders would open end of January, well its mid February now. Also saw online that they were getting a few GV80 prestige in using the genesis locator and called to see if any were available. They said 3/4 were spoken for but they had one "In Transit" that wasn't. I came in within the hour to put another deposit down (1k refundable again) to guarantee that is my car when it shows up. I was told it would arrive end of Feb +/- a few days maybe a week. Now at the time, I didn't think anything of it, but they said the car was so recently built that they didn't have a VIN in the system yet. Now talking with my sales guy I'm told the delivery was TBD and changed recently to 3/31. I understand chip shortages and manufacturing issues but I'm at the end of my rope with what feels like either lies or incompetence. Also, I'm not sure if this applies to genesis but a google search shows that a VIN is given to a car when it is scheduled for production. So is the car "in transit" even built?

Sorry for the essay but I'm curious if anyone else has had any similar issues or can provide some feedback or insight into this situation. Thankfully I'm not in need of a car urgently but at the price point of this vehicle there is no shortage of other options out there and every delay and frustration is making me consider other brands. Neither deposit has been cashed and the Hyundai/genesis dealer I'm working with is owned by a local dealer that I trust and I have worked with them many times before with their other car brand dealerships. I'm still hoping to receive my car but I am lost as to what is happening.

Although I am wanting a G70, I have had similar frustrations. First car designated for me was not allowed in the country due to no VIN; was put back on the ship. Then dealer closed rather than spend millions becoming stand-alone Genesis dealership. Next dealer told me they only get white, silver, black or gray cars, not the blue I wanted. Third dealer strung me along for 6 weeks then decided they were not going to sell to out-of-state buyers any more (no dealers anymore in OR). No dealer would allow me to order one, said I had to wait on their "list." Finally, out of frustration, I went to Genesis Corporate and they said they have no real control over dealerships but if I checked back with them every 2-3 weeks they'd check the incoming list for 1000 miles around and try to get one freed up for me.
I started looking for one in September 2021

Sounds like the convoluted rollout of the C8 Vette! Working with dealers was a real Wild West experience!

The ordering process is not like a GM or Ford where the dealer can place a direct order with the factory. When I ordered my G70 my dealer was putting in his first allocation of 2020s due in later in the year so my timing was good. They told me the order goes to port where vehicles come in and your put in line for that specific car to show up based on allocation quantity for that dealer. Not real sure if the port relays specific vehicle request to Genesis factory or not? 2020s were not in country yet when I ordered mine for it was first quarter of 2019 still. Took about 5-6 months or so for me to get my 2020. Dealer seemed to know when it was shipping from Korea and when it was due at port but it was 3+ months before my dealer even had that info. Ultimately they gave me an ECD for delivery to their lot and it was accurate to within a week. Granted this was before Covid and all the chip shortage BS we have now so dealers did not have the attitude they do today on selling and not really giving a damn about a specific customer.

its the time we live in right now. Just put a deposit down on a new truck, and itll be summer before I see it, if not later. Ford, GM, Ram, etc are all 4-6 months out on build times depending on your specs.

it doesnt help that Genesis doesnt quite have the "custom" ordering process down yet, as dealers can only request allotments and not specifically order them.

your best bet is to head to cars.com and start searching for the car you want, and be willing to travel to get it or have it shipped to you. Not sure what spec you are looking for, but just a quick look on there, shows they only have 254 3.3T 2022 g70s in their inventory list in the country. granted they dont have every dealer in the country in their inventory search, but its a start and shows the scarcity of the car.
