If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OUCH!. Got pinched on the 134. Front end gone.

Repair cost is just under 8K.

We were stuck in the car pool lane in the middle of rush hour traffic. I was PISSED and din't really want to talk to them at the mment. The CHP was there quick and got us off teh freeway. Maybe because I was so pissed, he wouldn't let me talk to them, even when I went over to appoligise for having a bad attitude in the begning. Maybe he thought I was going to go roadrage on them or something. Plus I'm not the nicest looking person, some of my daughters friends have told her that I look like a big grizzly bear. But don't judge a book by it's cover, isn't that what they say?

After all, you ARE a crusty old shellback.

Glad you all are okay. Is the most important. Cars can be replaced.

Sure doesn't look like $8k. Again, glad everyone was OK

Replace 2 rims, 2 tires, fender, front fasica, radiator support, lower rocker pannel and also repair the door. Lot's of labor there for the door and radiator support replacement. Plus a 4 wheel alingment.

On another note, I found a web site about diminished value and have started collecting info from them. We'll see what happens. The guy who started it is the one who started the whole diminished value stuff and used to work for State farm.

Can't imagine how the core support got damaged, I notice that you have fairly new tires. From the photos the front cover, other than the chrome strip looks like a repair. IMHO, your looking like about a $4K claim for diminished value. I manage an auto claims department of 60 people in SoCal today. My damage appraisal skills could use a little sharpening. Lol. Good luck my friend

Not exactly sure how it got damaged but it has a crack in it. Also the steel inner fender is bent in teh front corner. Maybe when the SUV hit the front corner it cracked it. Tires have about 6K miles on them. The front cover has damage on both lower corners where it rubbed the SUV and the center divider. They would have to add a bunch of body filler to build it back up. Also it is warped which would require heating to straighten it out. I'm wanting it replaced so that I don't have issues down the road.

I got a letter today from the company I did an inquirey on, they said $4800 minimum for diminished value IF everything is fixed back to factory specs and all of the parts are replaced with OEM parts.

I got the estimate from my insurance co last night. Not happy with some of the stuff I see in it so I'm headed to the body shop today to talk with them before I go talk to my insurance co. They want the body shop to repair some stuff that should be replaced, replace some stuff with remanufactured parts and there is a statement that sounds like they want to use parts off of a wrecked car rather than new parts.

for some reason I missed this thread.

sorry man for the damage man.

The genesis is a SOLID car. it can handle a beating.

hate to say it but the feeling is prob going to change for you, car will prob have pulling , wear issues, paint match ,etc the usual stuff. you were right asking for a new door... I would have asked the body shop (if every other option was exhausted) how much difference a used (factory painted) door would be vs bondo.
never seen a good bondo job on the entire door.

Time for the Gen2 anyways ;) perhaps get a couple of documented offers from dealers for your car and push the diminished value angle and get out.

ppp

Just got back from the body shop. Looks like there will be an updated estimate which I do not have yet.

They are fixing the front bumper, i.e. filling it with bondo. I'm not happy about that.

They did do an alingment check and it came out good, so that eases some of my worries. Still waiting on new rims and tires. Luckly my wing center caps did not get hurt and can be reused.

So now I'll have a car with bondo on the passenger doo and front bumper area. Plus the end corners on the bottom of the wheelwell will not be as original and may have some bondo in them as well. Wonder how long that will last till it falls off?

Also I just rememberd when talking to the body shop about blending the rear door and hood that the car has the teflon coating on it. So now there's another hoop to jump thru to get fixed.

And I'm alos waiting for the other persons insurance to step up and say they are responsible so I can go after them for diminished value. Looks like 200 bucks for a offical report from iCAN ( http://www.ican2000.com ) will be worth it since the dimished value seems to keep going up. It was at 4800 until I found out they are not replacing the front bumper. I'm thinking at least 5 G's.

My pitiful memory (very old) tells me diminished value is 10%. At least that's my last experience with this and I'm in South Carolina..... NOT SoCal :)

Have no idea what the laws are there. Be thankful you're not in a "no fault" state.

Glad you're OK Crusty. It looks like the Genesis held up really well structurally and helped keep you safe.

Which part of the 134 did the accident occur, out of curiosity? I always hated the area between Woodland Hills and Sherman Oaks. Some of the worst drivers coupled with extremely tight lanes made for some pretty harrowing driving in that area.

I've been in MN since 1999 after over 35 years in SoCal. I can't say I miss the 134 and the 405 at all. Just plain dangerous driving and it takes forever to get anywhere.

Jimmmmbo, it was right around griffin park area, between Glendale and Burbank. Around zoo road. The CHP said that he see's about 4-5 accidents a day there. most are hit and run. I'm gald that no one was hurt. We almsot got rear ended by some DA who wasn't watching. I had my emergency flashers on, and was even behind my car when I saw him barreling down the road. I'm waiving my hands at him to slow down and move over. But he didn't until he almost hit me. Then he gives me a dirty look like I did something wrong. The wife was still in the car. Man, if he would have hit teh car, I'd probably be still sitting in jail after I got thru with him.

I'm sending a nice detailed email today to my insurance company detailing the displeasure I have with the estimate and repairs they call out. I'm also asking for a ritten response as to why they are filling with bondo rather than replacing with OEM parts. My car didn't have bondo on it when I bought it.

Well the bad news continues.
I finally got the report out from the alingment that they had done on my car and also pulled up the alingment report from 6 months ago when I put new tires on the car and had a 4 wheel alingment done.
Well when compaing the two, almost every reading has changed. The only one that did not change was the front camber and the rear total toe. The rear readings changed only by .1 degree or less which isn't really bad.
But the front readings changed by 1 degree or more. You may not think that buch but the total range of the spec is only 1.5 degrees so by changeing a complete degree, that is significant.
The tire shop that did the checks did make adjustments to bring the readings back into spce. However, the SAI and Included angle changed by more than a degree on teh right side front. This is not something that can be adjusted but is inhearent to the design of the suspension. The spec has no + or -, it's a set value. Where my car was originally only .3 degrees off fromt the spec on the front right, it is now 1.3 degrees off. Makes sense since this is where the initial impact on my car was.

So all of this comfirms my biggest concer, something is bent in the suspension but they can't tell because they didn't have my old alingment readings, and didn't seem to care. I've asked that my car be taken to my dealer and let them do a complete and thurough check out of the suspenson. I'm also going to talk with my dealer and show them the two printouts that show how much stuff changed and there is possibly a bent spindle, strut, A arm or the complete suspension sub structure has shifted.

Stand by for updates.

What you are going through is why after being the victim of several bad drivers(we drive 50k/year including all our cars) I tell the other person's insurance company to fix my car back to the condition it was in before the crash. I have never accepted bondo, after market parts or excuses. I tell them I will keep the rental car they are paying for until my car is right. At times that has been six or eight weeks. I recall one time when the body shop painted a panel on my Acura 5 times before I would accept it and release the insurance company. Remember you are the victim, get your pound of flesh.

The problem is, I still do not know who their insurance co is. CHP would not give me the info. My insurance co is still trying to get a copy of the report so they know who to contact. Once I get the info, it's game on. 2 weeks with no car, Diminished value for damage, etc.

Wow never thought of getting an alignment when new or newish.

this is a perfect example of before and after and does provide some ammo for your case with insurance.

it sounds like this whole thing is going to rub you raw as it goes. don't let it get you too frustrated look forwarded to getting out of it into a 2015 !

Lucky on my part I guess. Even though I may not be an ASE certified Mechanic, it dosen't hurt that I know a thing or two about vehicles. ;)

As for the '15, not sure yet on the look. Need to see one in person. But there will be a '14 so who knows. ;)

Well I got a call last monday before heading out of town. Seems they could never get a little crease out of the door. They said 90% of people would never notice it but because of my concerns abd knowing my car, they figured I was the 10% who would see it and complain. ;) So they ordered a complete new door replacement. said it was cheapier than replacing the skin.

Talked to them today and they are finshing off the paint blend. :( They said they could not match it straight up so had to do a blend. Hopefuuly it gets over to the dealer today for them to apply the finishing touch coating and check out the suspension.

IF nothing goes wrong with the suspension, I'll should have it back by Wed. Now to go after the other insurance company for diminished value and loss of my vehicle for 3 weeks.

Paint is almost impossible to match without blending (exception most blacks and basic whites)

FYI - silver is one of the hardest cars to paint and get a match. Look closely when it's done and check for mismatching colors...

I'm glad things are working out for you. And best of luck getting the other insurance company to compensate you as they should. Hopefully it won't be a problem.

More bad news. :(

The car finally made it over to the dealer on Wed night for them to apply the finishing touch paint protector that was on it when I bought it along with checking the suspension.

I got a message yesterday from them that said the check engine light was on and the battery was low voltage. They want to replace the battery and prorate it. In other words, they want me to pay for part of a new battery. Car is only 2 years old.

I'm going to call later and talk to the service rep and find out whats going on. Did the body shop short out the battery when working on the front right fender and door? Or is there something else going on? Battery was fine before the accident. Never had an issue with it.

3 weeks now without my car. :( and my other truck now has issues with the motor so I'm down to my bike and the wifes truck. :( and it's starting to rain.
