  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OUCH!. Got pinched on the 134. Front end gone.

Wow they're going to nickel and dime you on a battery?

Sorry to read about your repair saga. Hope you find a happy resolution.

I just reread the thread about the trunk not being closed all the way and the rubber "switch" on the hood. So I'm thinking that may be the case. Going to talk to the service rep about it.

UPDATE:
Talked to dealer. He knows about the switch. Said battery would not pass test and check engine light was on. Needs a new battery. 2 year free replacement warrenty just ran out.

Talked to body shop. He says hood was not left open, etc. The low battery started a few days after I dropped off the car. Got a call back from him later and he is going to try and get something from the dealer so they can get the insurance to pay for the new battery since I had no issues before the accident. We'll see what happens.

More bad news. :(

The car finally made it over to the dealer on Wed night for them to apply the finishing touch paint protector that was on it when I bought it along with checking the suspension.

I got a message yesterday from them that said the check engine light was on and the battery was low voltage. They want to replace the battery and prorate it. In other words, they want me to pay for part of a new battery. Car is only 2 years old.

I'm going to call later and talk to the service rep and find out whats going on. Did the body shop short out the battery when working on the front right fender and door? Or is there something else going on? Battery was fine before the accident. Never had an issue with it.

3 weeks now without my car. :( and my other truck now has issues with the motor so I'm down to my bike and the wifes truck. :( and it's starting to rain.

I would have had a nice rental car for the three weeks, paid for by the person at fault. As I have said, with the number of miles we drive a year this has happened to my wife and I several times (at least 8 or 9). When a person has hit my car I do understand it was not on purpose, however I absolutely demand from them and their insurance and/or mine that I have no inconveniences or money out of pocket. I get everything in writing or confirmed in writing. I suppose sometimes I have been an ass about it but I have a lot less aggravation.

The CHP would not give me any of the offenders info, even their insurance co info. I had just recently removed the rental car from my insurance as I have 3 vehicles and a moorcycle. By luck of the draw, the car is still in the shop and the motor in my K5 blazer is acting up and I need to pull it and rebuild it.

I got a call back from the body shop. Ins. Co. is paying for a new battery. For some reason, the tire shop that did the initial alingment did it with the old tires/wrecked rims. Car is at the dealer and they asked , and installed the new tires and rim before putting the car on the alingment rack. They said the front right lower A arm needs to be replaced. We'll see what happens with the alingment after they replace it. Ins Co has said do what it takes to make it right. So some good news out of all of this.

I had suspected all along that there might be damage to the suspension and had told the body shop and ins co such. Guess my worries were founded.

Why do you keep stating CHP would not give you information? You have a legal right to the accident report which would have had all the information for you to go to the offenders insurance. A copy of the report could be obtained by completing form CHP190 or going to an area CHP office per the following from the CHP website.

In order to allow a proper Party of Interest (i.e. Driver, Passenger, Property Owner, Vehicle Owner, Parent of Minor, or Legal Guardian) to obtain a copy of a CHP collision report/investigation, without having to go to the CHP Area office where the collision report was filed, the following instructions will help you complete the CHP 190:
1. Collision/Incident Date: If you do not know the exact date, provide an approximate date.
2. Collision/Incident Location: If you do not know the exact location, list as much information as possible.
3. Driver or Owner: List the driver or owner of the vehicle. If only your property was damaged, please list your name and address.
4. Party of Interest:
PLEASE CHECK ONLY ONE BOX. The most common Parties of Interest are: Driver, Passenger, Property Owner, Vehicle Owner, Parent of Minor, or Legal Guardian of an individual. If you are not sure you are entitled to a copy of the report/investigation, please contact any CHP Area office to verify whether you are a proper Party of Interest. 5. Applicant: Print your name in this box.
6. Number and Street, City, State and Zip Code.
7. Agency/Company: Applies to government entities or insurance companies.
8. Signature.

Q: How can I obtain a copy of a CHP collision report?

A: There are two ways to obtain a copy of a CHP investigated collision report.
1. If you are a Party of Interest, you can go to any CHP office and pay a nominal fee for a copy of the report. If you prefer to handle this through the mail, you can complete the CHP 190, Application for Release of Information, which can be downloaded from this web site, then mail it and a photo copy of your driver license, to the CHP jurisdiction that filed the report (click here for CHP office addresses).
2. Have your insurance provider obtain a copy of the collision report and give you a copy (this may save you the report fee).

Q: Can I get a copy of a CHP investigated collision report at any CHP office?

A: Yes. Any CHP office will be able to get a copy of a CHP collision report or arrange for one to be mailed to your address (For example: You live in Los Angeles and were involved in a collision in Redding, California. You can go into any CHP office in Southern California and have them obtain a copy of your collision report from the Redding CHP office, or arrange for the collision report to be mailed to your home or business address).

Q: Do I have to go into the CHP office to obtain a copy of a collision report?

A: No. You can follow the procedures below to obtain a copy the collision report through the mail:
1. Complete a CHP 190, Application for Release of Information, that is available on this web site or you may simply write a personal letter. Send the completed form or letter to the CHP office which had the responsibility for reporting the collision, with verification that you are a proper Party of Interest. Normally, a party of interest is anyone who is the driver, passenger, property owner, vehicle owner, parent of minor, or legal guardian of an individual, when the collision occurred. If you have any question whether you are a party of interest, please contact your local CHP office.
2. Make a photocopy of your driver license or picture identification card and attach it to your request for a collision report. If you do not have either of these documents, the CHP 190 form, or your personal letter, must be certified by a notary. Once the CHP has your request and verified you are a proper party of interest, a copy of the report will be mailed to your address upon receipt of payment

The problem is, it takes 2 weeks for the report to become available. The office is 50 miles away.

Also that is what I pay insurance for. For THEM to take care of the problems. Up until this accident, I never had a problem with AAA. They used to take good care of me. But after these issues, I'll be changing insurance co.

OK, after 31 days in the shop, I finally got the car back. But it's going to have to go back in.
They did wind up replacing the left lower control arm. I'm not sure why since the SAI was out on the right. It has a slight drift to the right. I'm going to take it back to the alingment shop where I had the alingment doen before the accident and have them check it out.

Overall the car looks good. But attention to detail was missing. The underside edges of the door and hood where it was painted is rough. There is also a spot on the underside bottom of the door that is eitehr tape residue stuck in the paint or a smduge in the paint.

It appears that they used some kind of solvent to clean the center console and the plastic wood grain trim on the passenger door. It's all dull and rough and the clear on the metal on the console is now gone. I'm going to have them replace it all.

The fit of the front fender needs some adjustments. It sticks out about 1/8" where it meets the door and windshied A pilar. Also the gap between the front bumper and the fenders is off. It's OK at the bottom but almost touches at the top on both sides. Also the front bumper cover needs alingment.

That's all I've found so far. I hope I don't find more as time goes on. But it's good to be back in the car. Now I have to learn how to drive it again. The bill so far is almost 10K.

That sounds completely unacceptable for a repair. The vehicle should be returned to you in the same way it was before the accident not full of crap like that.

Yep, sounds like it needs to be redone correctly. I have never released payment to a shop until the car was near perfect. Once after an encounter with a deer I went to pickup my Acura and discovered that the replaced headlights were aftermarket. I had put in writing that I would not accept aftermarket headlights and refused to accept the car and continued to drive the rental that the insurance company was paying for. Two weeks later the OEM headlights came in and were installed, I then inspected and released the payment. If I had allowed payment and gave up the rental car I doubt I would have had leverage to get the OEM headlights.

OK, I FINALLY got my car back. It's been 54 days total since the accident.
I discussed with the owner of the body shop all of my concerns when i took the car back in and he said he would make it right. When I went to pick up the car, the owner was there to greet me and go over the car. He still had the list I had provided him.

The body now looks right. He said he took his top guy back to the dealer several times to look at other Genneys and talk with them, just to mak eit right. He also stated that every one they looked at, it seemed the front bumper cover was a bit lower on the left that it was on the right, albiet not as noticable as mine was when I brough it back.

The issue with the interior trim was some resdidue left by whomever cleand the car. They were able to clean it off and it looks like new again.

The headlights he was perplexed on but got them adjusted level. They may have been out from the factory. If some of you ould be so kind as to park your car about 30 feet from a wall and turn on your DRL or high beams and see if the left light spot os lower than the right. If so, by how much. Mine are now level where they were about 6" off before.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the gap in the grill. Seems that the gap in the center of the grill between the hood and grill seems a bit excessive. But everything else lines up, including teh gaps between the bumper cover and fenders. That gap was off before. Maybe I'm just noticing it now since I'm being so pickey on the car.

My next hurdle is to get restiution from the other party. I've asked my insurance company if they are going to help me or not. I'm looking at $1500, the cost of my car, for 54 days since I didn't have it. That's payment and insurance, not inflated. $30 bucks a day. That sounds resonable right? I'm also asking for $6500 diminished value, which I can get documentation for. Wish me luck. But I may be on my own to try and get any restitution.

At least I know have my car back.

As for the suspension, I took to my indy shop and had them look at it. They said everything is fine. My slight drift to the right may be a bad tire. I'm also now questioning of the tire shop did a road force balance or not. Probably not. I'm going to rotate front tires and see what happens. If that dosen't fix it, then I'll rotate front to rear.

As far as the lighting goes, my left highbeam/DRL seems higher than the right one. What's odd, is that the low beam HIDs are level. I'm not sure what causes this...

I would imagine the left beam is lower then the right for oncoming traffic. BMW's and such are the same way. Left is lower then the right. My prada lights are the same way, slightly lower on the left side.

Thought I'd give you guys an update. I finally got the body straightened out. Had to take it bakc twice for gaps not being alinged right. On the last trip, they finally got the front bumper cover alinged but messed up the head lights again. rather than keep dealing with these idiots, I just raised th headlights back up myself.

I've also finally gotten ahold of the other insurance company and am now dealing with them for my compensation on the car, I'm seeking deminished value and the cost of my car for 54 days as that's how long it was in the shop.

I'me still having some issues with the front suspension. It had a slight pull to the right when I got it back. I wound up swaping front tires from side to side and that cleared up most of it. But now I have a shuddering issue in the front end. I noticed it this weekend on a 800 mile trip. It seems to be wores on some roads than others. So now I've got to figure out which ins company is going to cover it and then take it to the dealer for remedy. My ins co has been covering things up to this point as I didn't know who the other ins co was. But now that I've gotten in touch with them, I'm afraid I may have to go thru them. It's been a pain trying to get them to return my calls so far. May have to elevate it up to a supervisor.

Curious...how did you align your head light cut offs?

Closer to the first one. But there is a step built into the head light it sems. You can see it from a distance of about 100 feet on a wall but not from about 25 feet which is how far away the car was when I aligned it.

This thread is a good reminder to avoid driving in So. California if possible. Too many crazies there. I recall being rear-ended there on a business trip about 15 years ago. I was only about 1 mile from the Hertz rental location at LAX when I got rear-ended (along with 3 other cars at the same time) by a guy on drugs (he ditched his vile of white powder on the ground right before the police showed up, but the police officer said we could not prove it was his since we didn't see him do it).

I called Hertz and they sent a tow truck to pick up the car and drive me back to get a new one. They dropped the car off at the back of their lot where there were about 50 other wrecked Hertz rentals waiting to be repaired.

Good luck getting diminished value and time away from your car. I know this has been difficult, but your odds are extremely low. Have to be able to show actual damages.
