  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hit a cinder block on the interstate yesterday. Went through the bumper, lower covers, left wheel well and exited somewhere mid underside. The pic doesn't do the underbody carnage justice. The lower half of the whole front bumper is busted apart all the way across. About $2k worth of damage to a never wrecked car...

Damn man. Hopefully the power steering rack did not get damaged or any other lower body component.

Steering has been a little out of alignment since.

No surprise, the electric steering rack and control box sit pretty low and is only protected by the lower body cover.

I was going to remove my lower body cover permanently at one time, until I noticed that the electronic steering system would be too exposed(water, impacts, etc) without the under body cover.

Did you file a claim yet?

No. Will probably pay cash since I'd rather get a premium increase for something more expensive.

If you have to replace the two under cover panels consider buying the 2018 versions which have removable access panels for the oil filter and drain plug. Someone did this suvcessfully and posted results in a thread here.

Only concern is the steering module. If it fails due to the accident, would you still have grounds to file a claim after fixing everything else out of pocket?

Complete coverage on the car, I can claim anything regardless of what happened. Deductible is the same ;)
