  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Over-agressive rain sensing wipers

We've had a couple of chances to drive our new 2012 4.6 in the rain lately. The rain sensing wipers work wonderfully in very light, intermittent rain conditions. However, by the time the precip level gets to continuous light rain, the wipers are running full blast! Under continuous light rain conditions, I'd be running intermittent wipers every couple of seconds. Changing from rain sensing to slow continuous wipe actually slows the wipers down on my car.

Obviously, the gain in the wiper logic is set way too high, at least on my car. Does anyone else's car do the same thing???

Unfortunately, there is no "old-fashioned" intermittent wiper option in the tech package cars to fall back on. Same situation with the Smart Cruise Control. We should have the option to select normal cruise control.

Agree with you on the wipers. Even after playing around with the rotary control on the stalk, it'd hard to find a setting that works when the rain intensity is variable. I also would like an intermittent, but not automatic, setting.

I agree that they're a bit overzealous. I've found it best to leave them in the lowest automatic setting. For me this works out ok 90% of the time. I find it tends to go to high speed too quickly. So when it goes to high automatically, I just set it manually to low speed which at that point would be fine.

Agreed. These don't work well. Give me the old-style intermittent kind anytime.

One of the few things I dislike about the car are the rain sensing wipers. I'll take the old style any day.

It depends on the amount of rain and rain drop size. Mine actually work well about 95% of the time when set at the next to highest notch. The remaining time, usually in very fine rain, they are a bit too aggressive and I just dial them down a notch or two.

Thanks for reporting him, I have banned him.

This is one of the few but incredibly annoying aspects of the Genesis. Do test drivers not check how things work in anything other than warm, sunny weather?

The are the fastest son of a guns - surprised the blades dont go flying! I am a Rain-X freak and use wipers very infrequent.

Unfortunately, it wasn't raining during our test drives.

I'd also be happy to learn if ANYONE is completely satisfied with the operation of their rain sensing wiper function. Perhaps, if the majority i dissatisfied, we can ask for a fix. I have no idea where the wiper logic is situated, but the programming might be easily fixed.

For the most part I leave mine off... rain beads off and I don't worry about it. When they are on I leave it at the lowest setting and if needed turn to a few manual wipes.

Keep your glass clean and you won't need them at highways speeds. I say this under the following consideration:if you are following the vehicle in front of you with a safe distance and there is minimal misting... No issue with snow as of yet.

Agree with the majority when I owned a 2010. I don't think it is true for my 2012 or else I'm getting used to it. They just seem less fast or aggressive than my first Genesis.

I don't have any problem with the rain-sensing wipers honestly. They work about the same as my IS350 and seem fairly transparent in operation. This seems like a pretty OCD thing to complain about...

I have a 2012, tech, premium and just completed a 1400 mile trip this past week. We haven't had much rain in Atlanta area so haven't had an opportunity to evaluate the rain sensing operation. fortunately or unfortunately :-) had significant rain fall in Florida this week and wipers ran about 30% of the time :-( I was satisfied with light and intermitten rain responses. During down pours the wipers occasionally went too fast, then too slow but most times worked flawlessly. What i didn't like was the wiper sound on a dry windshield after light drizzle. It seems the pressure on the blade on the windshield was too firm. The Genesis is only 9 months new, so blades aren't worn. I plan on taking the car in for an "adjustment" if that's possible?
Steve

One thing to keep in mind is that wiper blades are replaceable under warranty for the first year. After the first year, replacements are on your dime. For some inexplicable reason, my wiper blades needed replacement just before the 12 month period expired. Go figure....

I just picked-up our new BMW 328i at the Ft Worth dealership. We;e been having light rain all day and I found out the Bimmer has a small wheel on the steering wheel that easily adjusts the sensitivity of the system.

This is our third car with rain sensing wipers and the only one that has nailed the fix of the problems, so far.
